No fork is as smooth as a 888 but I will +1 for the kashima shaft upgrade on the RC4, that shit is for real noticeable and cheap.

I went for the Marzocchi upgrade and had to ask; why didn't I do that sooner?
Maybe I should Kashima my Fox fork and see if it gathers less dust in my garage. If it works it might form the basis of an excuse to build another bike. Can you really notice a difference on the RC4 upgrade? Or does it come down to the fact that it forces you to do the recommended service anyway which in itself should make a difference (for which I suppose I'm overdue) |

Fascinating, if you look at the Kashima Coat brochure provided in the link above carefully, the sliding surface which meets the seal is not Kashima coated. It's either chrome or nickel. Only the cosmetic part of the shock surface is Kashima coated. And for $20 I can sell you a bracelet that improves your balance.

Im not really on the Kashima bandwagon BUT I can't deny how much smoother a Kashima RC4 feels. Just sit on a bike equipped with one and bob up and down ever so slightly and try to feel stiction, you can't. My friend got this upgrade on his TR450 and I could feel a noticeable difference. Fox 40's on the other hand just don't do it for me.

I had the same question, and Andrew at SW got back to me very promptly with the following regarding the DHX Air and Coil shocks:
DHX 5.0 Coil there is no Kashima option. - To do the Air-Can and Body of a DHX-Air is fairly expensive + tax on top of a full service. The Kashima definitely improves the performance of the DHX-Air, but for most applications the Float platform (RP23/CTDA) with Boost Valve is a significant improvement, so we would not necessarily advise updating a DHX-Air.
