^^^ That is the correct thing to do.
Shooting an animal without a tag or out of season can get you in some serious trouble so you're best off reporting it asap and hope the conservation officer you deal with is a nice one. I can understand their suspicion as I'm sure people try to get tags that way but I know somebody that went through a lot of trouble with a CO when he dispatched a wounded moose he found in the bush. |

But do not shoot a bear just because you feel threatened that a bear lives near you and leave the wounded bear to wonder trough the woods till it dies a slow death and becomes a surprise for someone else and attract more bears and cougars. That person should be fined. What do you think would have happen it that wounded bear came across some kids or people in the woods before it died?

^ yea its def kind of ironic that as we are talking about this lee-anne would find a shot dead bear and all ... but thats how it goes. the bear pop is high this year in RC
i can def see the need to reduce numbers in a humane professional way... but when the great white hunter gets going, like in this case, we see his true colors.... |

I truly wonder why this bear wqas killed. Was it because some dickwad wouldn't keep his garbage can secured or wouldn't invest in an electric fence around his garden or livestock,or was it a REAL threat?
Either way,if you take matters in your own hands, its your duty to finish the job properly. I still wonder if the CO's are aware of this local problem. Are there any live traps in the area? What steps has the community taken to minimize the attractants? Its likely that there are one or two residents responsible for the bears coming into the area. |

we live in bear country and now every second person thinks they are a farmer so chicken coops etc are everywhere.... then the garbage cans of course....
last week when that cub went running thru my yard bleeting away like a lost sheep i knew it was trouble.... personally at my house they walk right by. if i yell boo they run away and i have never had a problem w my trash as im bear savvy... for me it was very sad news and just makes me shake my head.... |

I'm one of those "every second people" with a chicken coop. No issues with bears if you keep it clean, but coyotes and fox are forever trying to get in there. That's where the electric fence provides countless hours of hilarity, then I set the dog on them.
(No coyotes or fox were killed in the creation of this post) |

i guess depending on where you live chicken coops arent as big of a deal. in my yard in the last 10 days i have seen 2 coyotes, the momma and cubs, deers and raccoons .. we get a lot of wild life here in RC. around here i personally think if you are going to have the chicken coops you better have the 6000 volt fence installed....

I was visiting a First Nation band in NE BC last week and while I was there a grizzly entered the village. I asked if it was common and he said it they used to take a route that bypassed their area but that had changed since the local outfitter started throwing carcasses over the back fence. Nice one!

NSMB.com rule #64 clearly states that if the thread was started by member "Buster Bluth" then said thread will eventually exceed 5 pages and become what is frequently referred to as a "shit-show."
