i was looking at the pitboss 16" but the price (~$500 new iirc) and crazy bb height had me wary - then i saw a video of a kid riding one, knees around his ears - no sale

next time your at steed take a walk across the street and check out 3ride's selection.
http://www.3ride.com/v2/listing/?cat...=Bikes:%20Kids check out this cult 16" http://www.3ride.com/v2/detail/?itemID=8804 in my humble opinion a 16" bmx is perfect bike for a 5yo. As people have said before a small mtb just adds to much unneeded weight and complication. A 16" will keep his COG low and have a low top tube to aid with dismounting during a crash. Take him to the skatepark regularly and watch as his bike skills grow exponentially as he tries to imitate the older riders on BMX's. Put on a mtb when he's older and he'll be a ripper. My little guy (4 year old) has been rallying the pitboss a ton on Squamish trails. I agree the BC price is exorbitant. I ended up picking up mine brand new in Seattle for 315$. I really wanted to support my local LBS but they are 200$ more here. The bikes are made in Seattle so paying 200$ more seems a bit crazy - not sure how the mark up ends up being so high here. Then again I have no idea how bike stores work.

Whatever ... my kid owned a longboard for a while too. He stopped doing both after a while.

so one gear, what if anything did you end up with?
went for ice cream with my son yesterday and he's looking a bit cramped on his 16" hardrock. been dreaming about a lil ripper prodigy, but a) i don't know that i can justify the price and b) we'd probably need to get a 2nd bike for around town anyway |
