South Chilcotin 2012 (aka Spruce Lake)

Spruce Lake is still frozen, but the Gun Creek Trail from the Jewel trailhead is clear!

Hard to get there though, the Hurley road is still being dug out.

Cheers,

I am thinking about heading there next week, the hurley is supposed to open on the 1st of June! fingers crossed.

Any idea if you could cycle up to Warner from Spruce lake at the moment? I was thinking of camping at spruce and having a bit of an early season explore.

Thanks

Paul

check the pics on Pat's blog above - looks like you could get pretty close to Warner if not all the way.

Hey Paul, when we were there just over a week ago Warner would be a no go. The snow is deep in the trees at 1400 - 1500m. On the south facing open slopes you're good to go.

Hey,

Well we went into Spruce lake last wednesday and camped for two nights. We attempted to cycle up to Warner but got stuck heading down to trigger lake.....a bit too much snow as expected.

Anyway, a great few days and much better than sitting at work!

The Gun Creek trail is clear to Warner Lake, but that's about it. None of the alpine trails are open yet. Gun creek is full of balsam root, beautiful!

Trails around Bralorne are in great shape right now.

Edit: Mudslide at Crane Cr (just before Tyax Lodge) has been cleared, but the Friburg campsite is full of debris - unlikely it will be usable this season. The collapsed bridge on the Taylor road is under water and may end up downstream.

the gun creek meadows are prime at the moment. going fast though.

all the southern aspect ridge lines look clear but there is still snow hanging around on north aspect lines. should not be too long now.

first drop into lorna happened a couple days ago, group rode out over deer pass. warner has been open since the 1st.

Sooo stoked for my trips up there this year. Will need to find some other camping options since Friburg is out.
