Backcountry Bike Camping

Hey All,

I saw this video of Matt Hunter bike camping a while ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sZzPkFUZyc

I showed it to my friend and we want to give it a try, but don't know where to start. We both have backpacking experience, just not on a bike. Does anyone know a trail around Vancouver where we could do this?

Cheers!

the chilcotin have some sweet bikepacking options...
sunshine coast is also nice, whether you go to an official campground or go stealth camping (just don't tell anyone that I suggested it)

nick and taprider are also active in planning bikepacking routes, maybe they'll also add to the list..

also, for more tips.... bikepacking.net

siliconmunky is heading up Mountain Highway
http://www.whistlerbikeguide.com/trails/cheakamus-lake

All the snow on the trail to Cheakamus lake is almost melted now. It might be worth a first attempt since it's a fairly short trip.

Just saw this... yes bikepacking.net is a great site for info. I'm planing one in Rossland with some friends and some on the sunshine coast as well. I did some last year, there's so many options on the sunshine coast. It's easy access from home (north shore) I ride from home, take a ferry and basically try not to get to lost. As for Vancouver it self, that's pretty limited. I'm planning a boat drop at Indian arm and explore a bit. Some overnighters on the shore... . Anything north of Squamish, unlimited...

maybe start with a road ride trip to work out the bugs and have some comfort and easier ability to bail...

We rode our mountain bikes from Harrison Lake to Pemberton on the logging road one long weekend. That was pretty fun and there are two hotsprings on the way!

I would like to see a cross-BC route, along the lines of the Great Divide/Tour Devide route
the problem is for the more remote areas with lots of single-track, or higher altitude double track is resupplying food
also, logging roads that might currently be usable may not be in the future
