Just a guess, but probably because brands/distributers would prefer not to devalue the current seasons products.

Exactly, it just seems a little suspicious. If you only let Canadians buy the goods, just don't let anyone enter a non-Canadian address in at checkout time. The whole member only thing is a bit of a red flag

I fid people's apprehension that it is "fishy" as humorous. There are a plethora of sites in the US that follow the "members only" strategy. It is partly a marketing strategy to make some customers feel a bit more "elite" and partly a way to better ensure return visits via e-blasts.

In the time it takes to bitch here one could make a "spam" email (who seriously does not have multiple addresses these days) and scope out their deals.

I've bought sone ski goggles from the cartel and check their sales regularly, some are gret and some not so much. Overall, it's worth 5 minutes and a spam email account To see what they got.

The question wasn't a bitch about the company, simply an honest question about the business reasons behind the member-only site.

There is obviously something to hide as they seem to not want to respond to questions on this forum or to direct emails. Open and honest communication with current and potential customers is a good business practice. Ignoring awkward questions, not so much

I would imagine they need a way to convince manufacturers to use them as an outlet. A large members list would help in that aspect.

Hey guys,

Great questions. The biggest being why the members's only? Couple of reasons but the biggest is it is a requirement from the distributors. You are not able to google crawl us as we are behind a wall. So if you type in "brand name + sale + canada "you will most likely get a brick and mortar location or full retail website.

There is nothing fishy about the business model. Here are examples of other sites with millions of members that use the same business model. theclymb.com , gilt.com, seshday.com, homesav.com, etc

We would never sell any info. We don't spam. The only emails that we send out are for the upcoming sale - that's it.

One other consideration - I don't think Cam would let us advertise on NSMB if there was anything even remotely unbecoming. If in doubt - trust the Cam!
