BEST CF-FF Helmet, your thoughts and opines!!
Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat's right cats, another stimulating and inspirational thread.
I want to know what your thoughts are on the best, finest, highest rated, favourite (and I KNOW these are all highly personal and subjective) carbon fibre, full-face helmets currently out there which are banger for DH!! Explain why? Comfort - weight - washable liners - peripheral vision - etc. Let it rip!! Stoked to know ![]() The Dirtiest of Sanchezs

depnds on your melon..
if it fits right (and thats the crucial part) i find the TLD CF fullface lids esp. the D3 to be fantastic peices of work, and the art design is "usualy"; top notch.. so they get my vote.. i've had a Vigor Vamoose (team carbon edition) years back that was nice but a tad flexy in the chin area. i dont know if that co. is even around anymore thou. i did have to order it direct from the manu. as they had no CDN dist. at the time. |

I am using a 3-year-old carbon Giro Remedy. That was back when Giro's still fit me consistently. It's been a great helmet, and by great I mean it's pretty light and fits great. It hasn't really been crashed so I figure I'll give it another season or so then replace it with whatever's around that fits well. There seems to be many nice offerings these days.

I can't recommend the Giro CF Remedy. Its almost double the cost of the composite version and I could feel almost no weight difference on my head.

I got a shockingly good deal on it. Or maybe I upgraded on a crash replacement. Can't exactly recall. If not for that I would have gone with the composite option as well. It's extra cool because it's carbon.

So we've got a fanboi of TLD and some love/hate for the Giro Remedy.
Who's sporting a 661? What about Fox? Bell? Anything?? As an aside, I find TLD to be a bit too flashy. That's not my style...I kinda dig blending, ya know ![]() Anyway - keep 'em coming! Peace DS

I have a POC Cortex DH, is nice, fits well but it doesn't fit everybody, so best to try before you buy.

Not carbon, but intriguing nonetheless is the VeggieMatic from Urge: http://www.urgebike.com/en/vtt/veggie
They also make an interesting Enduro helmet: http://www.urgebike.com/en/vtt/archi-enduro Never seen 'em in real life. I think Different is a dealer.

I think this could be my next helmet.
![]() and if you're serious about your melon than a Moto helmet might be the best way to go. Shoei VFX-W is about the best helmet I've ever tried.....not cheap though. ![]() As already posted, helmet fit will determine which helmets are an option for you. What fits one persons head might not even be an option for another. |

I have a 4 year old 661 Carbon, and love it. That's why I kept it going for so long.
Unfortunately it's now so old and gnarly that it's time to replace it. This is my only pic and it's from 08'! ![]() Problem is, it's tough to find a replacement that fits as well as this one. The $400+ TLD's fit nice, but they're pricey and flashy as hell. Where can one find a plain black CF weave helmet that fits well? Quote:
But you need a Euro type body for it to fit. My POC knees are XL, and just barely fit. |

Just looking at the TLD's on eVil-bay right now... That clear black D3 looks tits.
Question - what's the pack-out like with lids nowadays? Significant or is the size the size? I like that TLD offers incremental sizing, pretty specific, rather than the S, M, L with 3cm to 4cm gaps inbetween the size range. As to the above 661 porn shot, nicely done. Even nicer to see you were out there sluggin' in the snowy snot [thumbsup].

Is the weight difference between a composite and carbon full face really that noticeable?
I read an article saying the difference between the Troy Lee D3 composite and carbon is only ~160g.. This seems pretty insignificant to me.. I guess it would be be noticeable from a entry level $100 full face compared to the D3, but I don't think I could justify the extra coin for CF. I have a TLD D2 and it's a hell of a lot lighter than my old 661.. But honestly I don't pay attention to that when I'm riding. |

I just picked up a Kali Avatar helmet... its not the CF version but its amazingly light and they have some good ideas for noggin protection behind their designs. There is a CF version due out this year.... I think mine is around 850 grams and the CF version is supposed to be lighter (of course).
