oh crumbs
when fox came out with the 34mm stanchion, this seemed like exactly what they needed to stiffen up their 5" forks (which are noodles, let's be honest). but i immediately had a suspicion that rather than going this route, fox would instead use the 34mm platform to lighten up their 6" forks:
http://bikemagic.com/gear/fox-releas...0mm-forks.html if they decide to offer 6" forks in 34 and 36mm flavours fine. but if they decide to do away with the 6" 36... |

I bought a 66 rc3 ti this year and loving it so far. Congratulations Fox, after 6 years of riding your stuff exclusively, I'm branching out. I see the 34mm chassis as ideal for the 120mm to 140mm forks, and would consider one as a lighter replacement for the 36 float lowered to 140 on my hardtail, but when the time comes, I'll be exploring other options. Hopefully Marz will boost their 44s to 34mm. |

Yeah, put me in the "big" camp too... 225ish with gear and my Fox Float 180 has been stellar... I notice no difference between it and the Totem it replaced, expect a better more adjustable fork.

I care less about mass/weight and more about rigidity, stiffness and reaction. I see this - if it happens - as just another way to make obsolete, perfectly fine forks otherwise. Personally, 36 or higher - FTW

Well, there's big, and then there's big I guess. I'm sitting at 230lbs butt naked right now with not a lot of body fat, and last year I noticed more flex than I liked in my old 160 Van. I heard that the 180s had been stiffened up somehow, but when Marz and RockShox are putting 38 or 40mm stanchions on their 180mm forks, then I'm not going to take the chance with Fox.
