Fromme - return to Dempsey/Braemer

So...I used the D/B access for the first time. What's the best way to get back from Mtn Hwy at the end of a ride, assuming not enough time to climb to Pipeline/Ladies?
Is there an access to Baden Powell that doesn't require a walk up? (I expect the last bit before Mtn Hwy will not be rideable uphill).

Thanks, Ben

Im not sure I understand what you are talking about but the way I see it is, if Ive parked offMtn Hwy I want to make sure I finish my ride with trails over the east side...Bobsled, FB, HN etc
If ive parked at the bottom of DB, I want a trail which starts at the 5th or higher
Alternatively, park at junction if Mtn Hwy and Dempsey. Short answer is that theres no useful trail across the mtn that low down...

If your ride is ending over on the east side then parking at DB is useless.

If you are going to finish your ride on the west side then parking at DB is a win.

I don't currently know a way from the gates up onto the BP to head west that doesn't involve hike a bike up the hike line or the exit.

Up BD, across the BP then up to 7th or Bookwus > Executioner > Dreamweaver > end of Boundary is a great way to have a long ride that starts with the BD climb.

OK thanks for the replies. I took the road back from mtn hwy to Dempsey and thought there must be a better way. If I need to I will hike the bottom of BP and go back that way - there will be some challenges going back that way on BP I think.

Or I could just learn to climb Mtn Hwy faster so I don't run out of light.

Cheers Ben

The only way to get back from mtn hwy if you parked at DB is:

- go back across baden power, but it is NOT fun to go west on the BP from mtn hwy IMO
- go back up to Ladies or Pipeline or Expresso or etc. etc. and come back down to BP and then go west (which will get you on the downhill side of BP towards DB) (this will take 30 to 60 minutes depending on you)
- ride down (paved) mtn highway, right on dempsey and just deal with the slog up the hill. its not actually that bad

The better way is to end your ride with a trail that spits you out near the BD.

Or hedge your bets and park at Mtn Hwy/Demsey junction. At least you know you have a descent to finish your ride whichever side of the mountain you end up on, even if the initial climbs ain't pretty...

The hike-a-bike up BP from Mtn. Highway isn't super long and the rest of the BP is ridable over to Dempsey from there. As I almost always ride in via Dempsey, I've done it lots when I am too gassed to ride back up to one of the higher trails, or I run out of time or whatever.

An alternative is to ride to the 4th and then duck in to Ladies from there on that little access trail.

Riding/pushing up Dempsey St. itself is probably your worst option, as it's a boring grunt.

shirley you can't be serious?
why on earth would anyone want to pedal their bike uphill for a whole 10-15 minutes?
get out of here with your crazy talk.

Well, you raise a valid point (if I read your sarcasm correctly) since the whole idea of using the DB entrance is the climb in (until now I have been a Mountain View Park/Lower Griffen/Roadside Attraction devotee). However I couldn't help regretting the lost energy as I whizzed down Mountain Highway on the tarmac, wondering how long until I got to the turnoff (answer - heaps longer than I expected). If I liked climbing on tarmac though I would just be parking at Mtn Hwy and riding straight up.

Cheers Ben

yes, heavy on the sarc.

like shirk said, if you're gonna ride the west side then park on the west side (DB) and if you ride the east then park on/just off mtn hwy. either way, just enjoy the ride.

And if you're going to end on the east side, you can singletrack climb up that way too.

^ This. It's only around 2-5min (depending on speed) of extra climbing than if you park at Coleman and you don't have to worry about pedalling back up to your vehicle after your ride.
