Maybe I'm inherently biased but anecdotally speaking, the 6 o'clock local news reports out of Seattle often make shenanigans in the Lower Mainland look like a children's ball pit at a shopping mall.

Yeah, no Tacoma included in that statistic. It may also be the case that violent crime is more prevalent down South (and potentially more sensationalized). I was limiting the conversation to homicides, and trying to make the point that they were more similar than they are different. I feel as safe in Van as I do in Seatown, but the same cannot be said for parts of St. Louis, DC, etc.

Hunger Games' fans tweet displeasure over black actors

"Why does Rue have to be black not gonna lie kinda ruined the movie," wrote one fan in a tweet posted on the "Hunger Games Tweets" Tumblr.

Another described the "Awkward moment when Rue is some black girl and not the little innocent blonde girl you picture," while another said: "I was pumped about the Hunger Games. Until I learned a black girl was playing Rue." .... [A]nother Twitter user weighed in: "Naturally Thresh would be a black man. #NotImpressed."

Apparently Rue and Thresh are described in the book as having dark skin.

Apparently, the police were familiar with Zimmmerman. He called them on many, many occasions to this report:

"Over the years, his (Zimmerman's) scores of calls to police showed he pursued shoplifters and errant drivers with zeal, reporting pit bulls, potholes, children playing in the street, open garage doors and “suspicious” youths — usually black males — loitering in the street."

to be fair on the stand your ground thing...maybe there is enough other evidence to show that he wasn't the one standing his ground and they aren't taking him for his word, anymore. I still think the law is ridiculous, however, for us armchair lawyers and judges out here the evidence seems to point to him (zimmerman) being the aggressor in the situation.
