Sram's answer to the Shadow Plus is here...
Sram's response to Shimano's clutched Shadow Plus derailleur is on its way. Seb Kemp got the goods.
Check out the Sram TYPE 2 derailleurs here...

I'm sold. I've been waiting for SRAM to come out with this. I was very interested in Shimano's Shadow Plus but did not want to change my entire drivetrain from SRAM to Shimano to get it. Also, something else to consider...the increased chain tension and lack of a bouncing chain should help keep the chain from coming off on bikes where fitting a chainguide is not possible. The question is, when will it be available to buy?

Why do companies keep putting rubbish logos all over their products? If you own the product, then you don't need that marketing crap any more. Keep it clean, keep it simple. What does "Exact Actuation" even mean?

You just proved my point. Even 1:1 ratio is meaningless. It's just marketing lingo made up to sell product, which is totally fine, but once you've bought the product, why do you still need to have it plastered all over it? Would you buy a TV and then not remove all the stickers that highlight it's features?

The biggest advantage of the shadow plus is not the sound, but not dropping the chain and not running chain guides. I haven't dropped mine once in the 2 or so months I've had it.

It irritates me to no end, but that's just the way the managers think the market works. And in most cases it really does. As a designer, it pains me to design a good (great?) looking sports product, only for the marketing guy to come along and say "make the logo bigger". |

And you do want a mechanism to release the clutch to make removing the rear wheel easy. And with the Shimano switch, you have the option of no clutch which makes setting up the derailleur easier. Also you can adjust the amount of friction with the Shimano clutch. I set mine a little less tight and it shifts a wee bit easier.

" a rear derailleur with some sort of clutch technology."
sounds like what we called a "torrington clutch" ...its the last entry http://www.daltonbearing.com/torring...-bearings.aspx they been around for a very long time, I seen them used in OLD computer printers, a pair of them setup to drive in both directions could harness the back & forth motion of the print carrier to drive the ribbon When they fuck up take em apart & lube with grease |

Agreed! Hate typing dérailleur. RD or rear mech are good.
I dig the clutch idea. Can't wait to bust off my current one. |
