taiga cyclotron rain pants - review pending

as i'm going to be commuting to work somewhat regulalry this winter i want to stay dry so i decided to pick up a pair of the taiga cyclotron gore-tex rain pants today. i haven't had a chance to use them yet but they seem well put together and are a very well thought out rain pant for cycling. once i get a few wet days in them i'll post up my thoughts.

the only caveat is they don't come cheap $198 plus tax so a fair bit mor than the top of the line mec deroche pants. reviews on the website are pretty positive though and most people seem to think they're worth the money.

currently both bikes have a rat-tail style rear fender and one bike has a mtb style front fender that doens't fully wrap the wheel.

i may actually ride without fenders just to see how well these things do.

Good wrap style fenders for sure, they may look goofy but if your commute is more than 30min you won't regret it. Not only do they keep you dry but they keep LOTS of road crap off your bike (sand, salt, dirt...) and that equals to a lot less maintenance/new parts on your bike.

fenders are sweet for sure but they won't keep you dry in rain like those pants will

exactly. if it's raining hard you need to have decent rain gear.

my commute is about 12km's, usually takes me about 23-24 minutes

for sure rain gear is important but don't over look good wrap fenders. For the price (30ish) they are very useful. Commute for a winter without them, then next year use them and you'll see for your self.

it's already too late, but one thing to keep in mind (as I am now replacing my rainpants), is that, unlike raincoats, you can (I did) wear through rainpants from pedaling (chafing). mine are in great condition, except for around the seat and inner thigh area where they are quite threadbare.

I'll also second the importance of fenders along with rain pants (and overshoes like the inexpensive ones at MEC.

that's one of the nice things about the cyclotrons - they're designed specifically for cycling. they have abrasion resistant cordura along the inside of the lower leg and they have a much heavier level of material in the crotch/butt area as well.

Putting wrap around fenders on my city beater changed cycling for me more than the advent of suspension in the 90s.
