Bullit too outdated to consider new?

I rode for a few years, then got out in 2004 and am looking at picking up another bike. When I left the scene, the bullit was still a completely viable platform as far as a do-it-all bike while still being able to take a serious beating. However the suspension design is outdated, and I'll have to put in some serious saddle time to get to ride down so I'm not sure if it's the route to go. I'll be picking up a seasons pass to mt.washington this summer so I don't want a bike that'll crap out on me. I'd consider a nomad, but the fairly low cost for the bullit frame allows me to spec it out much nicer and maintain my $3k +/- few hundred comfortably. Any other suggestions?

How is it outdated?

This industry is completely fucked if the general consensus is that a bike like that is outdated.

That's a solid bike and with a few parts upgrades or replacement it can be a 'viable' bike for many years.

For park riding? A linkage bike just rides better than a single pivot. I've been there, had a big single pivot like the bullet then moved on to 4bar and it's miles ahead.
For building up a pedal able FR do it all ish FR bike the bullets inst bad choice.

The Bullit is a fine bike. I ride single pivot bikes and have no complaints. They are simple to maintain, totally predictable and all around fun. A Bullit with a good shock (something that will let you dial out the low speed bob when pedalling) will serve just fine.

Still ride mine from 2002. Shimmed the 5th element, switched from the super-t's to 36's about 2.5 years ago as riding intentions changed for that bike (dh bike was added to the quiver). Built up the wheels are bit burlier to last longer. The bike doesn't quit.

Nomad is nice, considered selling for one once, but in the end didn't see any need to when there was nothing wrong with the current steed.

Sure it has some brake jack, but with the original hayes on there, you can't lock the brakes up too much anyways. Standover height won't win any awards with the current crowd, but the high BB gets you over anything. You can go ahead and buy bikes out there with more pivots than you can count on your hands, but the bullit is an ageless design. Doesn't build up much mud either.

So called 'outdated' designs still kicked a.s.s. on the trails people were riding back in Kranked3 - it's still mostly the rider.
