Thomas Vanderham interview 2011 - Part II Added

I sat down with Thomas at his place just as it was announced he'd be returning to his original frame sponsor.

Here's the first half of what he had to say...

And here's part II...

Good first part ... hopefully you cover more of the Evil stuff in Part 2. Was TV chasing the money (nothing wrong with that) or did RM really not care enough to let him go?

I asked him as directly as I could - but it's unlikely the real story will ever come out. There was likely a money crunch of some sort which lead Thomas to go out on his own. Was he offered a pay cut or not given a renewal? He calls it a mutual decision and that's as far as he'd go on that.

It would be good for everyone - well riders in particular - if salaries were more transparent. Is it the industry or the riders who want to keep it quiet? Probably both.

No kidding. Very cool interview.

One of my favorite riders to watch...he's got a very unique style and its been really cool watching him continue to dominate from the Ride To The Hills era (one of the coolest bike vids ever IMO) to today.

You have to respect him for that, it's a professional approach to take. Life it too short to burn bridges for no good reason.

Cam, those two vintage black and white shots are so good!

Also, I've only seen him ride once in real life, but witnessing Vanderham do a motowhip at Crankworx 3-4 years ago was quite the unforgettable experience.

I remember Thomas hipping out of the quarter during the 06 Crankworx. He took a bit of a digger trying a barspin. Guess he was feeling the pressure to mix it up with the kids doing flip crap off everything. He needn't have bothered as quite a few of us could have watched him table 5ft higher than anyone else all day long.
