Well, if the Ranger had found a gun, with no one holding it, he probably wouldn't have gotten shot.

That fact that someone was holding the gun and pulled the trigger four times or so while pointing it at the Ranger may have had a little something to do with him getting shot....

But than again, causality has never been one of my strong points...

Canada has about 33 million citizens (according to 2008 world bank data). The United States have just over 307 million citizens (2009 Census Data).

What I'm getting at here is that if Canada had 300 million people in it this kind of thing would probably happen just as often in Canada.

No.

Per capita stats are pretty easy to find.

Canada: 31 guns/100 people
US of Freedom: 90 guns/100 people

Let's keep it that way.

South Africa

You're almost 6X more likely to get shot in the US than here.

I'm still not worried about my chances of being shot. Looking at the Center for Disease Control website is telling. For people in my age range the causes of death are as follows (in order): accidents, suicide, homicide, "malignant neoplasm", heart disease, AIDS, diabetes and so on.

And regarding the point I made about comparative population sizes and then the per-capita counterpoint; I accept your point as valid. However, I think that when population density increases, so does the bad crap at a rate beyond the simple population increase. Can I prove this? Definitely not.

Let's keep it that way.
That will be based on fire arms that are registered. That will not include fire arms owned by criminals which are not accounted for in that system.

But then again that would require people to stop deluding themselves that gun registration stops crime using fire arms.
