AMD tbred 1800+ 512 ram Mandrake 9.0 Dual boot with XP (trying to get rid of) Anyone?? Seand? other geeks??? |

Why don't use change the permissions on the directory and files when logged in as root?

Good call. I have done that but what's bothering me is that it should be coming up in my menus. I shouldn't have to create a link to the /opt/fcc application. Just picky I suppose because I like my machine to be just so.

What's under the hood with Unix is pretty good.
Getting the GUI right is really hard - something 99% of computer users never understand.

Wasn't there some kind of cheap and free MS Office clone that you could get for Linux? Star Something? I seem to recall that it worked pretty good.

just a blurb: StarDivision, the original author of the StarOffice suite of software, was founded in Germany in the mid-1980s. It was acquired by Sun Microsystems during the summer of 1999 and StarOffice 5.2 was released in June of 2000. Future versions of StarOffice software, beginning with 6.0, will be built using the OpenOffice.org source, APIs, file formats, and reference implementation. full story: http://www.openoffice.org/about.html |

OpenOffice.org is the leading open-source project developing the most advanced multi-lingual and multi-platform office suite compatible with Microsoft Office. It provides the base code for StarOffice and offers users a familiar work environment that can be customized to any user.s needs and preferences. OpenOffice.org includes the key desktop applications, such as a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation manager, and drawing program; open-source databases can be easily integrated. Available in 25 languages with more being constantly added by the community. OpenOffice.org runs stably and natively on Solaris, Linux (including PPC Linux), and Windows.Additional ports, such as for FreeBSD, IRIX, and Mac OS X, are in various stages of completion
