Linux gurus - HELP

Hey guys,

I have a problem I hope you may be able to help me with. I loaded an application called First class as a normal user and all is fine and dandy for a couple of minutes. It creates itself a directory in the menu and everything but then it disappears. The same is happening when I load on Codeweavers Crossover Office. There one minute and gone the next. I can access everything as root but if I try to install an app with Crossover it will only be seen in the root account.

Please fellow geeks I need some help.

Here are my specs.

AMD tbred 1800+
512 ram
Mandrake 9.0
Dual boot with XP (trying to get rid of)

Anyone?? Seand? other geeks???

Why don't use change the permissions on the directory and files when logged in as root?

Good call. I have done that but what's bothering me is that it should be coming up in my menus. I shouldn't have to create a link to the /opt/fcc application. Just picky I suppose because I like my machine to be just so.

What's under the hood with Unix is pretty good.

Getting the GUI right is really hard - something 99% of computer users never understand.

Wasn't there some kind of cheap and free MS Office clone that you could get for Linux? Star Something? I seem to recall that it worked pretty good.

ehhh not entirely right...

just a blurb:
StarDivision, the original author of the StarOffice suite of software, was founded in Germany in the mid-1980s. It was acquired by Sun Microsystems during the summer of 1999 and StarOffice 5.2 was released in June of 2000. Future versions of StarOffice software, beginning with 6.0, will be built using the OpenOffice.org source, APIs, file formats, and reference implementation.
