Pivot Firebird heads North

yes its a bike, heard of it? From a small bike company in Tempe Arizona.

Lee and I will be riding it over the next couple of months for a review.

In the mean time, check out how its doing on some of the local trails!

It stretched its alpine legs.

Then it went for a ride in some local trails (music by Sharon)

More Alpine:

Pivot got into the Alpine again! This time further out in the Valley east of Vancouver.

This is a 1300m climb/descent in 8.6km. Some may be mighty enough to climb all the trail but not us!

Nice looking bike, but I found the "more alpine" trail to be more interesting!

Any chance that is near Mt. Outram?

My main memory from building a totally blinged out version of this bike was the seemingly needlessly complicated floating front derailleur set up. It seems like one of those ideas that is good on paper but doesn't translate to the real world too well. Sure, it works, but then I've never had an issue with standard front mech set up once you realise that the rear end of the bike effectively lifts and you to factor this in when setting it up.

Rode one in Moab couple years back. Bit of a pig but pretty good all-rounder. Didn't notice anything special (good or bad) about dw-link, just worked well.

Love the pics and vids Sharon/Lee, thanks for posting!

The pivots seem like nice bikes. They're popping up all over the place in socal these days - 3 guys I ride with now have them and another may start a build. I'm told they have a bit more of a firm feel to the ride than the other dw-link bikes (5-spot/Mojo) and that the geometry is a bit steeper. The firebird is probably less so. Interested to see how it turns out.

Lee and I were riding on Vancouver Island last week in the Comox Valley. Some pretty nice trails over there! Figured I'd take the Pivot to see how it did on a more XC type trip. I did notice the slacker angle on the longer climbs, bit more bike then needed on this trails, but it did just fine!

Ya definitely see more of them down south!

I'd say the geo is slightly steeper. Really noticeable on the extended flat ( non technical) climbs.

Firebird:
Head Angle- 67.2
Seat Angle - 71.5

Mojo HD
Head Angle - 67 (w160mm) 66 (w180mm)
Seat Angle - 71

Proto RFX ( not sure about the spot, which I would love to try)
Head Angle - 66
Seat Angle - 72.5

That bike sure goes through forks!

The island trails are looking nice too. Is the firebird geo based on a 160mm fork as well?

Its been fun switching up the forks actually! Thanks to Lee who put a hole in the Float lowers the first time he rode it!

Yes, the geo is based on 160mm.

But you can put the 170 lyrik ( which I have on right now so its probably a bit slacker ) or the 180 fox on it.
