Gear Shots #63

Gravity Light pedals, Race Face Ambush LW gloves, Schwalbe's Muddy Mary DH tires and DSP's Ti rear shock spring.

Sound off on what hits the right note for you and what strikes you as off-key.

I can't get over how expensive the gloves are. I've been hearing lots of good things about the tires as well, but also have heard that the new continentals hold up much better in the soft compound.

error

When looking for new pair of shoes for the Thunder Smurf project I came across some early photos of the Muddy Marry DH tires from Schwalbe and decided they might just fir the bill.

Justifying a titanium spring on lifespan and unsprung weight? I don't know if that works for me.

First up, has anybody ever broken their coil spring? I can imagine that the average coil spring rate changes slightly as it ages but if you're riding your bike enough to make this noticeable you've probably sold the bike before it happens.

And unsprung weight? Maybe half of the spring weight is unsprung? Three quarters? I don't think this will have much affect on your suspension performance compared to the giant spinning mass of forces attached to the end of your swingarm.

Union of midnight proofreaders

Sorry for the gaffes guys. Corrections are in place this a.m.

It was a late night post and my blurry eyes missed a few. Thanks for taking the time to post. You rock.

Re: justifying a Ti spring: Unless you are somebody looking to squeeze every last bit of performance (or every last bit of weight) out of your ride, it will be tough thing to do. Especially from a dollars to performance ratio. You certainly get some gains from the spring but they are small. For instance, you'd probably notice a fresh set of tires a lot more and they usually cost a lot less.

Nice job Ed, but what's a "bike bike"? Heheh, I'll let you find that one (it's in the Schwalbe part).

bike, bike goose!

Ah, fun with editing software. You know this dance well from Interbike Pete. Thanks for the catch.

I don't even have the excuse of a free cab ride to blame for this batch of late night foolishness.

Cheers

missed one cam:

Quote:
Platform pedals have been around as long as the bicycle itself has.
  1. the original bicycles didn't have pedals (hobbyhorse, etc.)
  2. if you grant me #1, i think this sentence should read: "platform pedals have been around as long as the modern bicyle" or "platform pedals have been around for as long as the modern bicycle has" - as currently constructed, the sentence syntax leaves the reader wondering "has what?"

Good eye! I'd bet there are more that I missed or a couple that I messed up. If that was it I'd be surprised! (because of me not Ed).

One more change, it's "Gooey Gluey" for Schwalbe's soft compound not "Glooey Gooey"
