the shore... in iceland
so we've been here in iceland for a few weeks now and our cargo container of 'stuff' from vancouver showed up a little while ago.
My bikes were intact... hurray! So last night i was able to meet up with one of the few icelandic riders i could find online. In the end the only luck i had was searching pinkbike for iceland ![]() Maybe 15 minute drive outside of reykjavik, behind a golf course is the purpose built 'DH' track. They built it a few years ago and i was pleasantly surprised! Im far from a great rider, but riding seymour/whistler for the past 2 years leaves you no choice but to be decent on 2 wheels. I still took the ride around on most of the jumps! the track is super short and once we get the rest of our stuff sorted, i'll pull out the helmet cam and get some great vid. Basically, you hike up the trail, takes 15 minutes tops... then you ride back down. Takes me roughly 5 minutes. They hold races there and average times are in the 2 minute range. Nothing compared to a 1-2 hour descent of seymour top to bottom, but this little track has it all. Wall ride, 6-7 feet gaps, large drop VERY similar to the a-line rock drop and some nice berms. I can definitely live with it ![]() looking forward to getting some video to show you guys! |

Sounds good, like an "ordinary Euro DH track"....sweet. Looking forward to some pics and vids of you ripping it.
How long is the riding season in Iceland?

not sure exact dates, but probably as long as vancouver as there isn't alot of snow on this part of the island.
Found a video of the track. As short as it is, at least its got some pretty good jumps/features. It'll keep me going until I pickup a KTM 450 EXC (or husky or similar!)

Looks nice, and I guess the XC riding is killer. I could imagine that it gets a wee bit darker than dark on Iceland at the beginning of winter.
Did not know there are trees on Iceland.

You should ride Reykjadalur, really fun trail ride, took me about 2hrs, over an hour of the fun stuff.
http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=442874 There's a DH race on the weekend after next, if you're still in the country. Send me a msg if you need details in english, everything about it online is in icelandic. |
