Burnaby Mtn trails "closed" Sun. June 13th

Well, not exactly "closed" but there will be a significant group of racers cruising the trails between 10:00am and 1:30pm this coming Sunday June 13th.

Our club West Coast Racing, which acquires a permit from Burnaby Parks to hold the Cardiac Classic XC race once per year on Burnaby Mountain, asks that you kindly choose any of the other great riding spots around to use during those hours instead - thanks in advance. Full map showing trails being used which represent most of the mountain, is available at;

Loops of Nicoles, accessed by climbing the paved road (instead of Trans Canada fireroad which is on the course route) will remain clear during the event.

There is no trail for the "micros", but is instead just a route laid out with cones and markers in and around (but probably not over!) some of the obstacles in the skills park. Laps probably not more than a couple of hundred feet around. We run them for a few minutes or until the kids look red in the face, everyone claps and cheers, then call it a day.

Not really a race as much as a race simulation for kids who haven't had that experience before, to ease them into the concept. Sometimes we only have 1-5 kids for this, but last year with the staging area up around North Road it was a zoo with about 30 of the little suckers zooming around in semi-controlled chaos. Mix of push bikes, training wheels, actual mini-mountain bikes, etc. They all managed to keep clear of each other pretty well, amazingly enough.

The "Youth Short Course" is a bit more challenging heading out along the access road to the far end of Hang Your Hat and then return via singletrack, for either 1 or 2 laps. Easy stuff for lil ripper types, but a bit of work for kids who aren't used to pedaling up hills much.
