Minion UST tire help
Hi,
I'm currently having some issues seating my minion ust tires to a new set of deemax's. These tires seem SUPER tight (60a compound with silkworm w/e that is). Every time I try pumping them up with an air compressor to the max psi 55 theres always a bunch of places where the tire refuses to pop out of the valley on the rim and instead just forms a seal with massive dives from side to side. Has any one else had this problem? ![]() Is it safe to go up to 60-70 psi to try to seat the tire? Should I just wait and ride it and try after the tires worn in a bit? ![]() Thanks for your help. |

Have you tried leaving the 55 psi in the tire overnight?
I would also try 65 psi. I've had snug fits on std (non-UST) tires/rims before and usually the practice of leaving high-ish PSI in the tire overnight solved the problem of the bead binding and causing that problem of low-spots in the tread circumference. If you can let the tire sit overnight, a tiny bit of soapy water may help the bead seat all the way around, but you'd want to let it sit overnight to let the water evaporate so the tire doesn't blow off mid-ride. |

use soap, it'll make life easy.
beware, ust tires with seat with a loud pop on Deemaxes, it scared the crap out of me the first time.

As Dave said, soap. LOT'S of soap. One tire I had to put liquid soap directly along the bead.
I went up to 60 PSI for said stubborn tire as well. One loud pop later and all was well. |

Good advice in this thread. Use liquid soap to lube up the bead and rim. I usually get my fingers wet with car washing liquid and lube the bead of the tire as well as the rim. The pop will then happen at a much lower PSI.

The pop scares me every time. PTSD from having tubes blow up in my face I suspect.

Yeah well wait until you over inflate and blow that tire off the rim. Stan's sealant everywhere. But that was with non UST tire.

LOTS of soap was deffinatly used. Got one to work after a few tries but the rear is still elluding me.
Funny enough using soap is even in the technical papers on the wheelset, always thought it was a word of mouth trick. Might just try leaving it as is and riding it. It lost less than 2 psi in 2 days so the stans in there is probably at work. Might try deans advice and lube it all up with car washing liquid. Also gotta say using an air compressor for the first time just made me feel like a fool for all the times I used a floor pump. A must have if you have a few sets to bang off. |

the size of the compressor can make a difference too. The superstore's POS wont set the bead on mine, whereas the Chevron will.
