yeah Japan...

The good news is Japan has promised a bunch of aid money to poor countries.
The bad news is they did it so they could continue to eat a endangered animal
and a bunch of bureaucrats bought into it.

Actually no,nor have I eaten shark, dolphin, whale or Koala bear. Nothing on this
planet is worth eating if it's endangered unless you're on a desert island and it's
the only thing there is. I'm not a long haired, deadlocked, trust fund, peace sign giving
air headed, peta loving vegan, but, I do believe in taking care of this planet at least
a little bit and killing off our planets animals just for the luxury of eating a endangered
fish is wrong.

I know fish aren't cute and cuddly, but ask some of the New England fishermen
how well they're doing with the collapse of the cod fishery.

The shit we allow to happen to the oceans is ridiculous at best. Marine protection is decades behind that of terrestrial ecosystems. What you don't see wont hurt you...

It is possible for something to be wrong without being illegal.

The definition of wrong depends on what side of the issue you fall on.

Says the person that didn't read the link I posted. Try and read that first, if you still
don't get it, read it again. If all that fails, take a reading course.

Seriously, the whole purpose of this meeting was to discuss banning things like
bluefin tuna, shark, trading in elephant tusks and such. The only reason bluefin
isn't banned right now is that Japan promised a lot of $$.

Slavery was legal in most countries not too long ago. Smoking with your kid in
the car was legal too, so was beating your wife or forcing sex on her ("you're married
so consent was given at the vows")...there's a lot of things that are wrong, but
are legal.

This is an example of how something so blatantly wrong can stay legal because
of the $$ of one country.

Actually as sad and frustrating as this is, I do not think that Japanese delegations have been that much different in the past.

I can remember the discussions back in the 80s and 90s when it was about the whales and not about fish.

Personally I am coming more and more to a point where I understand people like Paul Watson and what they try to accomplish when everything else is failing due to politics and bullshit.

If God didn't want us to eat the animals he wouldn't have made them taste so delicious.

Sorry, but this argument is lame, really.

Even other cultures that are different from one's own should be able to see that if there is not that much an abundance in any given species it is just stupid and selfish beyond reason, even more so in a globalized world.

Well if you want to go down the "god" road...

Quote:
"I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you-the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you-every living creature on earth." (Genesis 9:9-10)

"And of every living thing, of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you." (Genesis 6:19)

"Six days you shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest, so that your ox and your donkey may have relief." (Exodus 23:12; cf. Deuteronomy 5:14)

"You must keep my decrees and my laws.... And if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before you." (Leviticus 18:26, 2

"The land itself must observe a sabbath to the Lord. For six years sow your fields, and for six years prune your vineyards and garner their crops. But in the seventh year the land is to have a sabbath of rest, a sabbath to the Lord.... The land is to have a year of rest." (Leviticus 25:2-5; cf. Exodus 23:10-11)

"The land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is mine; with me you are but aliens and tenants. Throughout the land that you hold, you shall provide for the redemption of the land." (Leviticus 25:23-24)

"If you follow my statutes and keep my commandments and observe them faithfully, I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit." (Leviticus 26:3-4)

"You shall not pollute the land in which you live.... You shall not defile the land in which you live, in which I also dwell; for I the LORD dwell among the Israelites." (Numbers 35:33-34)

"If you besiege a town for a long time, making war against it in order to take it, you must not destroy its trees by wielding an ax against them. Although you may take food from them, you must not cut them down. Are trees in the field human beings that they should come under siege from you?" (Deuteronomy 20:19)

"I brought you into a plentiful land to eat its fruits and its good things. But when you entered you defiled my land, and made my heritage an abomination." (Jeremiah 2:7)

"How long will the land lie parched and the grass in every field be withered? Because those who live in it are wicked, the animals and birds have perished." (Jeremiah 12:4)

"It will be made a wasteland, parched and desolate before me; the whole land will be laid waste because there is no one who cares." (Jeremiah 12:11)

"Is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture? Must you also trample the rest of your pasture with your feet? Is it not enough for you to drink clear water? Must you also muddy the rest with your feet?" (Ezekiel 34:17-1

"There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgment of God in the land. There is only cursing, lying and murder, stealing and adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed. Because of this the land mourns, and all who live in it waste away; the beasts of the field and the birds of the air and the fish of the sea are dying." (Hosea 4:1-3)

"We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time." (Romans 8:22)

"He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground, and fruitful land into a saltwaste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there." (Psalm 107:33-34)

"Woe to you who add house to house and join field to field till no space is left and you live alone in the land. The LORD almighty has declared in my hearing: 'Surely the great houses will become desolate, the fine mansions left without occupants. A ten-acre vineyard will produce only a bath of wine, a homer of seed only an ephah of grain.'" (Isaiah 5:8-10)

"Ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind." (Job 12:7-10)

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world." (Psalm 19:1-4; cf. Psalm 97:6)

"Ever since the creation of the world his eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things he has made. So they are without excuse." (Romans 1:20)

"The earth dries up and withers, the world languishes and withers, the heavens languish together with the earth. The earth lies polluted under its inhabitants; for they have transgressed laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse devours the earth; its inhabitants suffer for their guilt." (Isaiah 24:4-6)

"You have polluted the land with your whoring and wickedness. Therefore the showers have been withheld, and the spring rain has not come." (Jeremiah 3:2-3)

"The nations were angry; and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your saints and those who reverence your name, both small and great-and for destroying those who destroy the earth." (Revelation 11:1

"You shall not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain." (Deuteronomy 25:4)

"Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God's sight." (Luke 12:6; cf. Matthew 10:29)

"A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender
mercies of the wicked are cruel." (Proverbs 12:10)

"Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds."
(Proverbs 27:23)

"He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrificeth a
lamb, as if he cut off a dog's neck; he that offereth an oblation, as
if he offered swine's blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed
an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul
delighteth in their abominations." (Isaiah 66:3-4)

"Should not the shepherds feed the flocks? Ye eat the fat, and ye
clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye feed not
the flock. The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye
healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was
broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away,
neither have ye sought that which was lost." (Ezekiel 4:2-4)

There's more...a lot more. And although "god" said....
"And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and
multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion
over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every
living thing that moveth upon the earth." (Genesis 1:2....

He also set forth that we need to take care of what we have lest we be wicked
of heart.

What's amazing is that most Japanese are either Shinto or Buddhist and both believe
"killing living beings should be done with reverence for taking a life to continue one's own and should be kept to a minimum".

So according to their own tenants they are wicked.

No where do these religions state that eating and animal is bad, it's just we need
to take care of what we have, why is that so hard to understand. This killing
things
till they area all gone is antithesis to the cultural and religious ways of Japan.
Japan has become (as a nation) obsessed about money, power and self indulgence.
