Looking for some upgrade advice

Time to start upgrading some stock parts and reduce some weight on my bike. I'm looking at a lighter stem and seatpost as the stock ones are generic and not light. Thompson has caught my attention but is there another option that compares in weight and price? I am looking to lose weight but not durability and am an average AM shore rider (ride up-ride down) on a Fluid LT.

Elite post 241g 27.2
Elite X4 50mm Stem 173g

I'm looking for a post with minimal or no setback.

I know there are other places to loose weight but the fork, shock are already done and the wheels I won't replace until they die, and are decent anyway.

Thomson are solid bits of kit and I've not run anything but on my past three bikes. You can't go wrong there for functional and light components.

i must say i'm a big fan of the thompson seatpost for all my bikes, but if you want to save some money and some weight, the SDG combo is a decent way to go.

I dig chromag, but the post doesn't do it for me. bonded head? no thanks when I'm shelling out for a premium product.

their bars and stems are the bees knees tho.

bling stems and seatposts are a waste of money imho. i got my ranger for $30 off a dh racer who'd won it and couldn't ever see himself riding a "little bike", but i'm still rockin' the 27.2 syncros micro adjust that came stock on my '94 blizzard

you're not gonna save any significant weight with a fancy post and stem, likely less than 1/2 lb total at most.

the new truvativ series are excellent value ("AKA" for normal riding, or "stylo" series for xc) - they are cheap and reasonably light.
chromag ranger is real nice and similar weight to thomson while being cheaper and local.

hard to beat a thomson elite post though. there are so many shitty seat clamp designs out there, but this is one proven exception.

That stem / bar combo above reminds me that higher rise bars need to make a comeback. I've even been thinking of starting a thread asking what's about as I too am running about an inch of headset spacers under a flat 50mm Thomson stem and a low rise bar and it looks stupid. Bring back 2" risers but in the current wider style!

Well I have a setback post and would like a straight post so I might as well look for something lighter and sexier. Stem, maybe not. The claimed weight of a Thomson stem is 13 grams heavier than the actual weight of my generic stem.

I am considering an SLX crank and bb combo

i just picked up an slx double for my fluid. ~200 grams heavier than xt, but i've heard you can trim this with a lighter bashguard (anyone?). pretty, and cheap.
