why not both ? you could say "it went like this for a pro and like that for a joe average" and as someone pointed out I would listen to guy who can think than a guy who can ride

Joe average (as a generalization) is too open to get a reliable and consistent result. The range of abilities is far too great.

Leclerc said something like this a few years back and I love it: he said something about top shelf dh tires as being good for EVERYONE, and if your opinion of those tires wasn't favourable, then your opinion didn't count. Harsh but true. If something is good for the elite, its good enough for you.

Face it, name a single high end bicycle product on the market that truly is not a good performer. Not a lot of people can isolate small intricacies of a product unless they are really pushing the limits of that part.

There are exceptions of course, like my old friend Eddie Allen, who like I said before wasn't the greatest or fastest but his technical knowledge (especially of tires) was eye opening. I remember the first and only time I bought a Minion DHR and he laughed at me for doing so. He told me about how shitty they were for straight line braking and once the knobs rounded out slightly, they were completely unpredictable. Sure enough on my first ride I was blowing through corners because the rear tire was locking up. Put on a Comp24 the next day and was hitting all my lines.

I agree with what you are saying - but this paragraph should have a disclaimer exempting 1st production runs of new products.
There are a number of 1st run RM6 owners, 1st run 2010 Boxxer owners, and at least one 1st run 2010 Dorado owner who can say that their high end product was not a good performer - or did not peform well enough to justify the price point (Dorado).

Well of course, but let's assume that what you are riding is actually working as intended.

For example, I would say that just about every high end dh bike on the market is good at what they were intended to do, regardless of reliability issues.

We wouldn't need reviews if that was the case. the purpose of reviews is also to comment on reliability, parts choice and suitability and obviously comment on the handling characteristics of each bike.

I'm sure there must be a few pro that ride that tire, if its good enough for them they should be good enough for you, surely

Well of course. That job gets tougher the more specialized, well built, and generally more expensive the bike is.

Anyone can ride them, but they still suck.

to be honest i've never ridden that tire for any length of time but they must work in some places, maybe just not where you ride, just because you think it sucks doesn't mean it does for everyone.

Just re-read what you just wrote. ^

I've ridden them in the wet on Cypress, in the dry in Kamloops. They will work well when the terrain is flatter and drier where massive straight-line braking isn't much of an issue. But take a look at the center knobs and how they are shaped and spaced, then compare it to a tire with a center straight edged block. Which one is going to better at braking? The only time that tire performs ok is when you lean 'em over or when they are brand new.

Grab a handful of tires and go test them out.

wow wayne, you seem to know a lot about tires. maybe you should start a thread about which tires are the best.

Wayne, maybe you're just too fast for the tires for the average pro DH racer they'll be fine!
