Looking for a new used set of skiis
I'm Six foot three, and normally ride a shorter ski then recommended for my height. I know very little about bindings, and plan to buy my boots new. Basically I've found some on craiglist
Basic ones like Rossignol Scratches or K2 Invaders I'm planning/set up work to allow me to head up the mountain minimum two times a week. Hopefully heading into the back country twice a week. Thoughts on any of these? or feel free to post some suggestions. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...346226138.html http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...341095188.html http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/spo/1308491042.html |

try the mec gearswap site, there tends to be lots of cheap ski touring stuff there. |

http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_d...=1251567382384
with a set of skins they fit in an alpine binding, they give you the free heel to allow touring with alpine boots and bindings they will work, they are the cheapest way to get BC skiing ,how well they work I duno but I hear they suck compared to real AT gear,do you realize how much $ and fucking around touring will be ? you need skins, probe ,beacon, shovel ,level 1 aviy course, a tourable ski/binding setup and people to go with I am 170lbs/over the hill,a 180cm suits me fine so Given your newbiness and preference for shorter ... at 155lbs I would say a ski with 100mm width underfoot & about 170cm in length |

I looked over on mec gearswap just for kicks ,not really much over there and IMO generaly MEC heads want a kings ransom for some peice of shit they have beaten the crap out of
maybe this one but buddy didnt specify ski size and I am betting the ski is too long for you since he has large freerides on them http://www.mec.ca/Apps/outdoorGearSw...=1251568609353 this looks good altho the ski might be a tad long depending on how the JAK BC sksi and she hasnt specifyed what length of freeride binding or maybe that is the titanal 3 without brakes in which case I would pass on them http://www.mec.ca/Apps/outdoorGearSw...=1251568938131 there are sm/med/large sizes of freeride depending on your BSL (boot sole length)shopping for used touring gear you need to know your BSL note that BSL can be differnt for differnt brands of boots so even buying new boots can fuck you up if you are on the cusp of 2 sizes I found out last spring I fit in a small and mediumm ...good info to know |

Any of the skis on craigslist look good but you should check them out in person. Make sure that the edges aren't pulled out anywhere and check to see how much edge is left. If the skis have been seen a lot of tuning the edges will be worn down. Check out the topsheet to see if it has delaminated anywhere. If it's pulling back from the edges or tip you should think twice about buying them. Also take a look to see what kind of shape the base is in. Avoid skis with big gouges out of the bottom. Otherwise if you weigh about 155 and are of average height a ski about 170 to 176 is great. A waist of greater than 90mm will float you better in powder than a skinnier ski. It all depends on how and what you want to ride.

Just some advice. Be VERY weary when buying boots... if you want to go pain free, spend the extra bit of dough and go to someone that knows what theyre doing. Trust me, it can save you a LOT of pain long term. Stay away from places like SportChek... and even MEC can be pretty sketchy. If the sales person doesnt look at your foot before they grab some boots for you, walk out. They should have asked about 5-10 questions about you, and looked at your foot and measured it before they even start talking about what boot is right for you.

In the city, Im not sure... theres a few places in whistler: Summit, Fanatyk Co, theres a few guys at CanSki creekside (but be careful here... if a young aussie comes and helps you out ... run), Snowcovers used to be great but I think theyve had a big turnover so could be hit and miss.

I've heard the Turkey sale is on the downhill over the last couple of years. The long lines is a bit of a turn off unless I can sneak in local's only night.
