Redwoods for sure. Go inland a bit and see the Sequoias too if you can.
Canon beach is beautiful and the nesting birds are cool. Lovely logging along the way, especially just outside of Olympic N.P.

Drive I-5 without stopping. Pee in to a 2.5 litre jug of pop. America is very scary. Drive over Golden Gate, then turnaround and come home.

Meh, ok.
If you're in a rush, then I-5. If you want to enjoy the trip, try this: - leave Vancouver in the afternoon, with the intention of getting through north Seattle before the evening rush hour. - stop in Seattle, at or near 1st and Denny Way, and eat at Jalisco's, just on the north edge of Belltown. After dinner, head down 1st to Virginia Ave, and have a beer at the Virginia Inn, and plan your evening's drive (coffee, etc). - by now, it should be 9pm or so. You have some boring miles ahead of you, so do'em at night. Drive south through Olympia, then exit out to Aberdeen. You'll be on the coast and heading for Astoria/Long Beach etc as sun comes up. - Spend the entire day driving down the Oregon coast. See dunes. Drink at any brew pub. Resist staying in Coos Bay, and push on to Crescent City, CA. - Get cheap hotel in Crescent City, CA with wifi. Watch Spankovision if alone, and get sleep. - Wake up, and drive 101 through redwoods all the way to Ukiah. Head out to Cali coast from there. - Wind down the coast with the intention of getting to Bodega Bay or Tomales, or better, Point Reyes station for an orgy of seafood and stuff. - Cut in towards 101 from there, and have dinner in Fairfax, north of SF. - Then, head of Golden Gate at sundown, and find a cheap motel along Van Ness. - Spend time in San Francisco. Make sure you go to Taquiera La Cumbre, 515 Valencia Street. Have steak burrito. Your welcome. nat |

I've driven the I5 from Van to SF in about 13 hours - Don't know if being on a bike for that long is hell on earth or not.

2nd vote for Sea Lion Cave. From the highway it looks like one of those cheesy "mystery spot" type tourist traps, and it is. But for once there is actually something pretty cool to see and foul to smell (three thousand sea lions packed in a cave smell like...three thousand sea lions packed in a cave).
Most others have mentioned most of the good stuff. I also seem to recall that Mendocino, CA was nice. |

Assuming you are on a motorbike, then: Day 1: Vancouver to Seaview, WA (Long Beach). Day 2: Cross into Oregon at Astoria, and drive the coast to Crescent City, CA. Day 3: Crescent City to SF via 101 to Ukiah, then out to 1 to SF via Point Reyes and Fairfax. Day 4: SF Day 5: SF to Monterrey/Carmel via Santa Cruz and back to SF for dinner. Start heading north on I-5 until you get tired, which should be about Red Bluff or Redding. Day 6: Redding to Vancouver, with a brunch stop in Ashland, after the summit. Then blaze to Portland (stop at Doug Fir for a snack), then blaze it back home. Give'er. |
