Specialized North Shore Bike Fest update # 4
Soundtrack by The Peak 100.5 fm brought to you by Obsession: Bikes After a painful meeting of the minds we have come to the following conclusion: Putting on bike races is not as much fun as Rippers – the event is cancelled…. Just kidding! Seriously I have never worked with a more enthused group of people in the bike race field. Props to Dan and Layne for really stepping into the DH to make it a most excellent adventure. Aimee, amazing work with the vollies ( ps we could use some more). Christie, registration is going great (XC guys and girls get off the couch and sign up! No better prep for racing then racing – this one is for you! ) Danielle, wow how do you balance it? Matt Bond and the NSMBA thank you for the support. And of course Sharon, the 2010 Olympics could use your skills!! We will be emailing a fact doc. to all participants but for now read on. Friday night update 4:30 on site registration and number pickup opens. Expo opens. Opus Bikes Double Crosser Cyclocross registration 7:00 Cyclocross racing begins 9:00 Opus double crosser Cyclocross ends. Note: Cyclocross registration is on site only. The course will be on and around the InterRiver site. If you wish to prepare come to the site and ride the BMX track backwards- seriously! Remember, if you wish to be the King of the Shore you must compete in the Cyclocross, XC and DH. Come cheer on the Racers on Friday night – it should be a great spectacle. Lezyne Marathon XC dedicated to Richard Juryn update: The Lezyne marathon XC race begins at Rice Lake Park (the Gazebo site) at 9:00am. We are asking riders to park near InterRiver Park because this is where you are finishing. Marathon reg. and number pickup will be open on Friday at InterRiver Park from 4:30 pm to 9:00pm, Saturday 7:30 am, closing at 8:30am. The Course is 40k. The Course will take you to spots on the Shore you may have never seen- it is a must do! We will begin with a Parade rollout from the Park headquarters to Hydraulic trail. The riders will be lead to Spur Road 4 where the race will begin in earnest. See Map for further details on our web page. Important note: The course must pass back through the Rice Lake Park area. Due to construction and trail limits in this area we are creating a “ No passing zone” If you “race” through this area and endanger any pedestrians you will be disqualified. The success of this event depends on your compliance. We will have two water stations. We will have a two-hour cutoff at Old Buck/ Bridle intersection. This event is designed to showcase to the local land managers the interest in XC. It would be beneficial to see a good local response – see you there! Specialized Smack Down DH update: Saturday reg. is open from 12-5 at InterRiver Park. This allows riders to Pre-ride Neds from 2:00 to 6:00 on Saturday. DH race plates MUST be picked up on Saturday. The DH racer list will be created on Saturday night with no changes on Sunday. The course is subject to change; final approval will be in the hands of the Commissaries (who like us, have your safety in mind). Do not assume anything, verify course by pre-walking and riding yourself. We have seen unprecedented interest and comments from the racing community. Your opinions have been heard, absorbed, debated. Thank you. As it stands today: The race starts at the top of Ned’s. The Old Mushroom parking area(Historic site) which is an ideal place to marshal an event. The American bridge may be widened. The “senders“ such as natural drop and the A frame may be chicaned to limit speed and increase safety. The finish will be before the first legit pull out to the hydro lines. There is a great finishing straight away and get this, no uphill (see we are listening). Individual results may be posted at the Hydro line. Lezyne and Specialized will be offering Neutral Support at the Hydro Line to ensure that you can ride back to the Shuttle location. Awards will be at InterRiver immediately after the event finishes. Here’s some news; No one wins anything but bragging rites. Ride safely and in control. We want nothing but success for the event and individual racers but you will not win if you wipe out. Rubber side down fellow riders, Rubber side down. More news to follow through a direct email fact sheet from Karelo. And on our web page. If you think we don’t have your e address forward it to: ride@northshorebikefest.com Sunday Innovative Fitness 8k Trail Running race update: Sunday registration at 9:00, Event starts at 10:00. It winds through the current Richard Juryn trail area. We have opened the event to Women and Men! While I thought it a cool idea to hold a women’s only event – because men smell. (Tell me I am wrong) The truth is we don’t have enough runners to make it a really good event. So the smelly men can now enter. The Expo at InterRiver Park: Wow, I am so stoked to see all the good people showing up to help introduce people to the world of Bike. Sprockids will be running kids events all day. Endless Biking will be supervising the dirt jump area – not instructing. Endless Biking will be running the SUPER PUMP TRACK (deluxe version). BMX racing will be on Saturday night from 6:00-9:00. And on Sunday a learn to race BMX clinic will be taking place. The Ride to Conquer Cancer is meeting on Sunday to ride with the pros. Trek Bikes will have Women’s demo bikes on site on Saturday and Sunday. Obsession: Bikes will be managing Specialized, and Scott Demo bikes. We will have food, drinks. Sunshine and good times. The Peak 100.5 FM is planning to come by on Saturday. And on and on. Lot’s of info, lots of good times. Be sure to tell your friends about the event and plan to be entertained. Let’s celebrate our Love of the Bike! Last edited by Sharon; 05-13-2009 at 07:33 PM. |

Fun weekend in the making!
EB Pump track record is consecutive 144 laps without pedalling.... Can you break 100? Can you set a new course record? Improve your riding while you ride! DB@EB

Will the DH course be finalized (as per Commissaries) before the sign-up cut off? I want my decision to race or not race to be an informed one.
Cheers, |

Yes,
For all intended purposes the course has been finalized pending a few spot "adjustments". The track will begin at the begining of Ned's proper. Just after the 2 short bridges. It will end at the straight section just after the step down gap and past the little A-Frame. That being said the only thing that could change is small adjustments to small sections of the track. The length is a go from here on in. Tomorrow is your last day to Register on-line. Thanks, The Crew!

How about watching the DH race? Parking is at a premium for the lot on the hill. The gf and I were planning to go watch but can not figure out the best way to park and get to the course.

Hey guys,
I understand the issue with parking and spectating. There is no parking along Hyannis and Berkley on Sunday morning. But there are a tone of other streets around the area that can be parked on and we ask that you hike in from the bottom, and that will probably mean parking a bit away andd then hiking into the trail. Thanks and hope to see you all on the trail... bring your cowbells and noise makers! Dan

Props to Dan for trying to balance all the competing interests and trail maintenance and course gongshow for the Neds DH.

and to sharon for navigating the bureaucratic hoops and getting permits. Her paperwork file is HUDGE! Truly an object lesson in why the District of North Vancouver usually is rated one of the worst municipalities in the Lower Mainland to do business or hold an event
