Honda G Cross on Ebay

I get some great emails from our visitors.

Here's one from Germany this morning.

hey dudes,
a user of the german bike community mtb-news.de found this ebay offer!

Ebay Link

it is one of the bikes, which had been stolen at the WC in Willingen 2005 or in Essen 2003. The ebay dealer gets the bike on a legal way from an eviction.
honda-Germany and the German police are allready informed from mtb-news users.

best regards,

niklas vogt

No word on what happened to the transmission - but it's pretty useless without it.

It would be great if some of our German speaking readers could translate anything usefull from the posting.

Happy Bidding.

ya, ohne schaltbox. It'll be interesting to see what that gets bid up to, very much a collectors item. The gearbox wasn't all that complicated so its possible to rebuild the bike

babel fish gave me this translation

Here somewhat very rare: HONDA RN-1 Downhill Bike I cannot say unfortunately much, since I am not been versed with it. The bicycle is in a new condition and, as in the pictures watch is, is in such a way auctioneered. Without switching box!!! This is a private sale, under exclusion of any guarantee and cancelling.

I've got a paintball gun, an old Dakine Back-pack and will have $47.58 at the end of next week when I get my allowance - will that do for the wheel set?

Heres a link to an article about the bikes being stolen in germany, back in 2005. Apparantly the gearbox wasn't on it at the time, incase of theft. I don't think any were actually sold, so it seems likely that this is one of the stolen bikes.

It has rear suspension...why is the seat bottoming out on the wheel?

There is a thread ongoing on mtb-news.de - one of the users has contact to the police and the person who wanted to sell it tries to tell the story that he got the frame set from a kind of garage sale thing and had no idea that the bike was stolen.

Apparently, Honda Germany has already been contacted. Curious how this gonna end.

I think because the BB normally mounts someplace in the middle of the missing gearbox. Without the gearbox, the whole back end rotates up around the bottom shock mount.

And yes, word on the street is that its one of the bikes stolen at Willingen, also confirmed here

None were sold, and all of the team bikes were crushed after Honda cancelled their race program. This is one of two remaining. It will be interesting to see what this gets bid up to.

C'mon Obama, lets gets some serious environmental laws going, and take away ORV areas so Honda has a financial incentive to bring these to market. F a derailleur, B.

I loved the look but I thought Honda should been made to produce the bike in small amounts I think no company should be allowed to build a proto bike win a ton of races and then just back out. if they want to race they should have been made to sell a version of that bike.
I know I would have ponied up the dough to buy one

later

Here's the translation of said ebay-page:

Extremely rare:

HONDA RN-1 Downhill Bike

Unfortunately I can't tell a lot about it since I don't know anything about this kind of stuff.

This bike is in perfect condition and will be sold as pictured.

Sold without Gearbox!
