Intense SS advice

Hey there,

Anyone out there have any experience on an Intense SS? If so, what are your thoughts? I am one of the people who impulse bought the thing off chainlove and now it's in my garage and I am wondering if I should build it up, or just try to get my money back? I ride Nelson, BC in the Summer and spend the rest of my time at the Eagle Velopark down here in Idaho where we continue to improve the jump lines and skills/freeride area. My thought was this thing would be great at the velopark but I think the gnar in Nelson might rip it in half. That said, I saw Mr. Bourdon shuttling up the North Shore in Nelson quite a few times last Summer. I'm no Bourdo, but I was wondering if anyone has experience running an SS in a North shore environment.....that kind of terrain really is where my heart is. Any help you guys can provide is appreciated. Thanks much.

Jim

I had one, and quite liked it. The one recurring problem I had was smoking my cranks on almost everything. I was not used to a low BB as I had just come off my Uzzi, but after a few rides I figured it out.

I loved it at Whistler as it truely was low and fast, but for the majority of the riding I do it wasn't what I "needed". I sold it to my buddy who is always riding Paper Route(mini A-line) at Ledgeview and he can't stop raving about it.

For its intended purpose, the bike is faultless. If you are looking for a bike to jump and rip berms all day it is the one, but if you need to do more with it, you may want to look at the new Uzzi.

FWIW, I went with the Nomad 2.0 and have yet to ride a better All Mountain bike, really it is that good!

I know this is a little off topic, but what did you end up paying for that frame? What did shipping/customs/taxes end up costing you?

I also picked one up off Chainlove and it ended up being about ~1600 CAD$ after the exchange and gst. No PST and no Duty on bikes.

I've been on mine for a year and ride mostly shore and whistler. It only took a couple whacks to the pedals to figure out where things are / how low they are and it hasn't been a problem since. I've been super happy with the bike and find that it rides steeps and chunder better than I expected. Easy to throw around and loves to jump.

My thoughts are much like the above... run short cranks and you'll get used to the low BB. The great thing about the low BB is that when you throw this thing into the corners it will just rail and you'll end up wanting nothing but bikes with low BB's again.

The bike is low in many ways, the low TT just makes you want to throw the bike around and makes you feel like you are 'in' the bike rather than on top if it. It's a feeling that I look for in my bikes and makes me feel really confident on tech lines.

I had a Totem on my bike which slacked out the HA a touch more than the many builds you see with the Fox 36. I had no complaints with this bike on steep tech lines.

I also really liked railing tight singletrack on it, think Angry Pirate, Ninja Cougar, Too Tight at Whistler.... the short WB just soaks up trails like this.

It also loves to jump and pump rollers in the trail. It is a playful bike. A-line and Dirt Merchant are a blast on this and the travel ramps up nicely for some of the bigger hits like the GLC drop.

I say build it up.. it's a great bike and I doubt it will leave you wanting.

I sadly sold mine as I need some $'s but I know I'll miss it this summer.

I want an SS so bad I can almost taste it.

If I could have sold my Orange 224 there would be one in the garage right now.

Sounds like the same setup I have. I've got two rides on mine now and am just figuring the shock setup for this bike.

What kind of pressure and bottom out adjustment did you run on the DHX 5?

Also, I'm trying to setup my Totem solo air, any tips?

Thanks!

Bejebus, that's so close to what I just sold... anyway for the rear shock I had a 500lb spring, about 110psi in the chamber with it would in just to the second line. That seemed to work well for me at 200 lbs in gear. Oh and I had the pro-pedal wound in two/three clicks.

Hey thanks, I'm running a 450 ti right now so the setings will be different. I'm around the same weight as you too. I'll just have to ride the snot out of it to get it dialed, he he.
