Thumbs up Recycle you old Bikes (its a great cause)

Hey,

There is a project out there right now that recycles bikes. We collect bikes from all over the lower mainland. This project is funded by CIDA (federal Goverment) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education in Cuba.

The recycled bikes are given to Cuban students and teachers as rewards for Excellence. 70% of the bikes are stripped down to parts which are also shipped to Cuba to be used to repair the public's bikes. All repairs done in CUba are done by kids who would otherwise end up dropping out of school.

Support the Sanctuary Foundation's effort to change the world one bike at a time.

We will be at JH days if you want to donate a bike while you are checking out the action.

Call 604-451-1470 to arrange for pick up. Or drop your bikes off at:
Pathways (1051 Marine Drive. North Van)
John Henry's (#100-400 Brooksbank Ave. North Van)
Our Comunity bikes (17th and Main. Vancouver)

I appreciate all the support this comunity can lend to our efforts.

G

are you providing 100% tax deductible receipts ? I am sure you would get more response if you could write it off...and none of this 17% of value crap either....

anyway, good luck.

Charity = Tax deduction.

I was just implying that if you could write it off, more people are willing to donate...The US is better for that as you can write off 100% of charitable donations (From what I understand). In canada you can write off 17% of your charitable donations...

In the US you can also write off your mortgage payments as well I believe...here no dice...gotta come out of your after tax earnings. Then add in Higher tax rates, a crummy dollar value and less corporate business....

Then again after factoring in the Better beer and riding...Canada is a much more viable place to live.

Sounds like a good cause though. Why Cuba ? Just curious.

im not 100% positive on this but i dont think u can write off ur bike as a business expense just because u use it to get to work and back, but maybe if u were to deliver papers or pizza on a bike, then you could right it off. well i think thats how it goes for all sorts of transportation, cars atleast.

Since the fall of the USSR they have used bikes as a major form of transportation. 12% of all travel is done on a bike.

Also they have stood their ground against the states for over 45 years.

They aren't looking for bikes with a high dollar value. For the most part the bikes that are donated are bikes that people here wouldn't consider ridable.

You got it man. We use our f0r fun.
The Cubans use them for transportation. I am sure that everyone's parents has bikes they bought in the eighties from Canadian tire and are sitting in their basements.

THAT'S WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR!!!

We fix them, we ship them, they ride them...
