Slippery Canoe: A North Shore Dictionary?
I was riding Cypress yesterday for James Wilson's birthday ride. Just after we exited Slippery Canoe this rider named Wade said "did anyone ride the canoe?"
"Is the canoe still there?" (I hadn't noticed it on the ride) "It's not a real canoe - it's just a hollowed out log" said the rider named Wade. "I know," I replied, "a canoe." A hollowed out log has become known as a canoe because of Slippery Canoe and this got me thinking of other North Shore - or perhaps mountain bike specific - words and phrases. Obviously ladder bridge is another - as is wheelie drop (maybe not NS but mtb for sure), cedar rungs, skinnies, minimizer, half-launch etc. Any more out there to add to the mix? Anyone know who built Slippery Canoe? |

chunder, loam - I don't think I've ever used those words to describe trail conditions outside of a mtb conversation. When you're hiking it doesn't matter if it's chunder or loam or something else so you don't really need to identify and discuss it...

Sorry LG, that term is well used in skateboard/surf and snowboard/skiing. I heard it in the skate industry long before I started mtn biking, but I think it is a surf term even before that.
