riding with glasses, what kind do you wear?

So, I'm getting old and glasses are now a daily thing for me.
I still ride without them, but I can't help I might be missing something not having
glasses while riding.

I'm thinking of some type of sport goggle? Or light glasses so I don't have to use
goggles over the glasses.

OR, is it better to have some glasses and still use goggles?

So all you other four-eyes out there, how do you do it?

Edit: Also, what kind do you use, and where did you get them?

Never thought about contact lenses?

I've found glasses are impractical and dengerous for all kinds of sports mtbikers would like (like mtb, skiing, snoboarding etc). Had a crash on bike long time ago where despite having fullface helmet I've scratched my prescription glasses, bent them and they scratched my nose

I've been using contact lenses for like seven years or so and couldn't be much happier. Consult with your ophthalmologist and be happy rider.

^Yup.

Glasses + bikeys = poop

Go with contacts. Even those piss me off. At best, they are an annoyance.
I'm really starting to think about zapping my head with teh lazers.

If you are stuck with having to wear glasses, get a sport sunglass frame (plastic) and have your optometrist put plastic RX lenses in. Metal frames are a no no.

I was the same way, but contacts are much less hassle than glasses.

I said the same thing but you get over it quickly. Contacts are the only way to go short of corrective surgery. Glasses fog up, glasses get mud on them and you have to be careful how you wash them on the trail or they get scratched. Glasses get dropped. Glasses get sweat on them. Glasses suck.

However, in many instances with contacts you still need protective eyeware to keep dust and crap out of the eye. Get dirt under a lens and it feels like a small rock. But I often ride dry or slow sections where it is unlikely that I'll get mud in my eyes with the eyeware in the pack or in the vent holes on my helmet.

Hard lens float a bit and can fall out more easily. My wife has astigmatism and needs the hard lenses. She tried toric soft lenses but they move as you bounce down the trail which is like riding drunk.

I do have a pair of Oakley Monster Dogs with prescription photochromic lenses in them. They are great on the road bike but only good for certain weather conditions off road like warm and dry or cool and dry. If you do get glasses for riding make sure you test the field of vision by bending over like you're on a bike. Most "street" glasses are not high enough at the top and you end up looking over the lenses when you bend over like on a road bike or when you're pinning on a DH.

I have a pair of WileyX SG-1 goggles that I've been wearing for several seasons now both riding and skiing.

I wanted something that wasn't a full on goggle, but something that would fit tight to my face and keep out wind/rain/etc...

http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/70.html

I have 2 pairs of prescription lenses for them, clear and brown tint

I also have a pair of SLIK wileyx sunglasses w/ the same brown tint - this color tint is incredible!! doesn't wash out colors at all, really makes them pop!

Polycarbanate*sp* shatter proof lenses and a ton of other neat features built-in.

highly recommended!

I use the wileyx Top Jimmy for my boating glasses, but total cost for the set was
over $250.00, not sure if I want to take a chance at breaking those. I'm sure the
non polarized ones would be quite a bit cheaper. I had the sg-1's before and like
them a lot too.

Looks like I'll be seeing the eye guy for some contacts.

Contacts is really the only way. The problem with glasses is that have to keep moving your head because you won't have any peripheral vision.

I have been wearing prescription sunglasses for a very long time ...I mean you are gona wear some kind of eye protection or sunglass anyhow and I can't really wear contacts. I got some nikes right now with a polarized lense ,had deisals before that ,still got some old vaurnets from way back

In my experiance a wire framed eyeglass will bend & break inside of 2 years from doing stupid shit while doing the same stupid shit wearing a prescription sunglass and saving the eyeglasses for non-contact will help them last a very long time .

ALSO ,A titanium framed eyeglass is $$$ but they DO last much longer than a normal eyeglass frame without breaking

My everyday, "progressively" ground, photo chromatic eyeglasses. Made w/hardened glass, I just carry some regular tissue w/me and use a little h2o from my camelbak if they need wiping.

I have to wear contacts...no fogging - depth perception is way better - no worries about fragments in your eyes if you crash.

I was the same way....but after trying to ride with glasses and feeling like I could barely see most of the trail I gave in and tried contacts.

OH, and the occasional crash with the broken arm of the glasses coming dangerously close to impaling my eye helped in my decision, too

Contacts: FTW

get your optometrist to give you a few different trial pairs to find the ones that fit/breath the best for you... if you're not riding that often or you're forgetful like I am you, can even keep a set of the single day ones (or the freebie trial pairs) in your gear bag for the days when you forget to throw in the contacts.

So how long will a pair of contacts last in a bag (minus crashes)?
