just a random thought...

/begin rant

so when i got back into biking a few years back, i grabbed myself a hardtail for XC riding and some mildly agressive trail blazing. back then, everyone and their mother was riding on a full suspension.
costco, kmart, even your local starbucks were selling full sus bikes.

this trend kept up, and i was one of the few hardtails i saw rolling around. then suddenly, out of nowhere, hardtails started showing up, more burly than ever. it was just about then that i got back into more aggressive riding and was thinking of my next bike.

the norco hartails were shinning through, along with some others, and caught my eye over a full squish. i almost went full suspension.

enter brodie bikes.

i fell in love with the 2000 bigshot, and it became my trusty steed. i rode that thing over everything. my girlfriend, chelsey (laudomia on the forum if you havent already pieced it together), had a comment that i still find amusing to this day.

"look at our two bikes! i look like the girlfriend who just rides along.."

she was still riding on her cannondale xc bike, pushing the poor thing way beyond anything it was meant for.

a while after this, i surprised her with a 2002 4hun. to this day, she still rides and loves that bike.

now, 2003, i needed a new bike.

enter eric fox and his line of bikes.

lots of talk swarmed around the growth of hardtails and how burly they were getting. my eye went from brodie to balfa and 243. as you all know from my rants about 243, which way i went.

i cant believe how much biking has changed, and how quickly hardtails 180'd from a very obvious death, to a total revival and obtaining a large chunk of the market.

my thanks go to all the bike manufacturers that put the time and R&D into making sure ht's didnt die. i'd hate to have to buy a bmx and use it for trail riding if the ht side of mtb's ever died. this rider will never go full suspension.

/end rant

HT's are a good way to keep cost and weight down.

I remember back in the Full squish days. Everyone having their suspension that just looked god and didn't suck up any bumps around the city. It was pretty funny

i used to agree...but some of the 243s on this forum are 40-50 pounds and a few thousand dollars...may as well just get a rear spring added on for those numbers!

a banshee scream costs and weighs more than a morphine. both are banshee freeride frames.

simple as that.

along those lines, when will the first long travel HT be introduced by a major company?

Many can handle it, but none come with a long travel for stock.

yeah, stock...but who keeps stock parts?

lately, once an HT rider is done making their ride the way they want, its very close, if not the same weight, as their dually - if they have one.

frame alone tho? you are 100000% correct

doesn't banshee have a new yellow morphine with a boxxer race? I thought I saw one at the BC place bike show, retailing for around 3 grand?
