Gear Shots #42 - Race Face, WTB, and Garmin

Dan Austin and I have been beating on a few choice goods lately, including a Race Face Atlas FR Crankset, the WTB LaserDisc Trail wheelset, and a Garmin Edge 705 GPS unit.

Check it out and share your thoughts.

Stu

I think the GPS should work with the free Ibycus topo mapset so you can use that mapset instead of buying the Garmin mapset. Mapsource itself - the mapping software is free from Garmin. The map data is what they charge for.

Can the GPS generate elevation and ride profiles? Mapsource should have that functionality but curious whether the GPS generates the data.

How nervous were you with the unit on the handlebar mount.?

Hey Stu, are you using the mapsource program?

I tried to download the tracks from an Edge 305 into my mapsource but it wouldn't load into this program...

tworide is a n00b; standing by
I've been using the same wheelset for the last 3 months - working out fine here as well.

Motionbased is a great resource underused by bikers, shame it's design is a mess and makes it harder to use. Never managed to get a route from it into our Garmin Forerunner though - hope you have better luck!

Hey Lee, what do you know about IBYCUS?

Can you use this application to upload government topo maps onto the actual Garmin unit? (Or is it just for use on a PC?)

There isn't much info on the IBYCUS website...
