Car people: question about mufflers

I need to replace the mufflers on my car. I'd rather do the work myself than pay someone else to do it, only problem is, I don't weld. My question is, if I buy an after market muffler (Flowmaster, Magnaflow etc..), is the inlet pipe sized to slide over the old pipe on my car after I cut off the old muffler? Basically I want to be able to cut off the old muffler, and stick a new one in it's place without welding. If anyone understands my question and can offer any insight, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Is it a real SHO or a fake SHO.

Its its got the yamaha 3L Id just take it to a shop and get it done right. No sense having a cool car that sounds like ass with a leaky exhaust thats not very effecient.

Also, if you go to a shop, your likely to get a good deal on the mufflers since they are already charging for the labour. And the work is under warrenty. Ive used exhaust warrentys lots before, and had WAY to many cars with hacked up exhausts that I appreciate a pro-job. Shouldnt run you more than $300. Dont get name brand, you can get the exact same muffler for 1/2 price under like Flo-Pro or whatever.

you can get adaptors to make anything work but pipe is messured in inside diameter and outside ie. 2 inch id fits perfect in 2 inch od. you can also take any pipe or muffler to a shop and have the pipe enlarged they spread it.

Just messure the pipe goto lordco or any auto parts place (if you goto lordco a good account you can use is island 4x4 gets you a decent discount) buy one and stick it on if you go flowmaster the original 40 series is the way id go I run them a lot good sound welded seams and on a 4x4 they work great as a skid plate. cheers

Spend the extra $50-100 on good mufflers, cheap ones rust out and break easily. Beer makes exhaust shop guys really happy and will gaurenty a cheaper price.

Just measure the I.D. and O.D. of the pipe, buy a muffler that either fits inside or slips over the pipe. You can buy extra sections of pipe, connectors and muffler clamps at Canadian tire for cheap, No welding needed.. although it is much better to weld it.

Not always. If you do some research you can find cheaper models are made in the same factory with the same material and the same welders doing the seams.

Ford had a contract with Yamaha to use X amount of the Shogun motors (which were designed for F4 racing). Ford was going to put the engine in a Mid Engined car (hence why it works for front wheel drive cars). Plans fell through and ford was stuck with a bunch of these awsome motors. They placed them in a relativly safe/heavy chassis and that happened to be the Taurus.

I know a guy who used to work at a Ford dealership, they had a SHO with the rev limiter removed, talk about a scetchy ride man.

I priced a Flowmaster 40 at Lordco today, $140. They seem to sound good on anything.
