DH wheel set
should i go for 721's or 823's my 721's only had a small dent in them after last season...
and for hubs i'm going for a DT 440 up front and a king in the rear... laced with tripple butted spokes... kevlar bead tubless tire's just the rims im stuck on... i love the clincher charicteristics of the 721's, amazing tire profile on the smaller treds but the 823 come UST tubless... so once i add the tubless kit (2 20 inch tubes) to the 721's i have a feeling they'd weigh the same, but the 823 being stronger.... damn its a toughy |

The 823 will be far heavier at 657 grams plus the little alloy spoke retainers. The 721's will be a better bet, especially if you can make them last.
That being said I personally prefer the Alex Supra D to the 721. The Supra D is lighter than the 721 at 580 grams, 4mm wider, and holds up far better in my experience.

Damn ... which means that as a built wheel they're even heavier. Anyone know what the weight of the 823 with inserts is?

I thought the 823's were 580g rim-only, 640g with the alloy inserts and like ~700g with brass inserts
I'd go 721, especially if you like the rounder tire profile that it makes. I have 823's and I'm not a fan. Sounds like KPerras isn't either also, its tougher to top up the fluid in the 823's since you can't remove the valve core like you can on a schraeder 20" tube (or Stans rim strip) |
