Dont do it! I met the nutbar upstairs doing that and totaly regret it. I've had plant "fall" on my deck, been yelled at, glared at and had to call the police a few times.
For awhile there we had all cig butts, spilled liquor and litter coming from upstairs and it has just recently gotten better.

Doesn't always work. When I was in the condo there were some idiots above me so I slipped a very polite (ya really) note into their mail box, so the assholes decided this was a good reason to start making more noise - like shaking light fixtures etc. So I just documented it and sent it to strata every morning and they got a fine at the end of 2 weeks for a large sum - $500 or something. Then it got real quiet.

A few months later they're making all sorat of noise @ 2am again,. so the next day I go up and bang loudly on the door fully expecting (and wanting) to get into a fist fight, and a young woman about the size of my big toe opens the door and starts apologizing. She just moved in the day before (Yay the goons are gone) and she had to find her laptop and work clothes late last night etc etc. Never heard a peep out of her after that.
