What kind of seat are you running?

what kind of seat are you running? And how do you like it? How good dose it feel after a long climb? Dose it bruise the inside of your leg when you are riding Gnar?

I am running an SDG Grand Prix. It is great for all out freeriding for me. But sucks big time on climbs longer then 20min. So I am wondering how well your seat works on long climbs and freeriding.

Thanks, Heathen

I have a Fizik Gobi - which is ok, I'd rather run a WTB, but pricey. So I wait a season and buy a WTB.

I do not have any Gnar around my bush as of yet, but I suppose it will be ok - have tried some gnarnish stuff and it was good, nottoo much bruising. The old saddle was worse.

The Gobi can be a bit uncomfy while climbing without a chamois, but I like it down the hill...small and not too bulky.

I have a WTB Pure-V team (the leather and Ti one), and I can sit on it all day with no numbness, but that's me. Really, asking what seat is good, is like asking what helmet is good. You need to get out there and try them to find the one that is a good match to your body.

WTB offers a test ride program, they have 6 or 7 shapes of saddles, so you can test to find one you like the best, I know Cove has the Test Center, as well as Obsession Bikes in North Van.

Fizik Gobi is the best for me, and this is coming from a long-time fan of Selle Italia Flite saddles. I don't find the WTB saddles to be comfortable for extended sitting (climbing) at all, although I think they provide good value and durability if you stand up frequently.

That's exactly what I mean, for me, I did the Triple Crown Ripper with my WTB and no numbness or discomfort, and that was over eight hours of riding.

Shop around and find the seat that feels good.

Which one of the 7 or 8 shapes did you ride? There are saddles from WTB with a similar shape to the Selle one you are talking about, they just came out in the last couple of years (Silverado, Devo, Deva, Shadow V, etc...).

Heathen, I recommend you use the "Test Ride" program available, it is the best way to find a saddle that works for "you", not everybody likes the same thing, so asking on the board isn't really going to help.

I'm running a SDG Ti Bel Air on my bike, and its a neat, slim shape that stays out the way when i'm getting airtime

but i don't find the shape of the saddle very comfortable for pedalling about if i put up the seatpost...certaintly not as comfortable as my last saddle (Bontrager Earl) or the saddle on my CX bike (specialized Comp BG)

saddle are such a personal fit though...its hard to recommend any??

my current favourite is the Federal Capital SL on my bmx, that is dope, might get a seatpost shim and run a Capital post / saddle combo on my MTB too...

Big Bike: WTB Power V DH. This saddle is huge. Pretty comfortable for pedalling, although a bit wide for my thighs. I have used this for a lot of saddle time, including a cross-country race. For me, it is getting too wide to be used comfortably in all circumstances. For serious downhills, I have to more or less slam it to get it completely out of the way. I can run it raised a bit and make it work, but I end up with some light bruises. If I run it all the way up, the downhills had better be very smooth and not too steep or it will get awkward and sketchy very fast.

"AM" bike: SDG Grand Prix. This saddle has seen time on multiple bikes, and it had proven to be fairly strong, though it has had to be electrical taped a bit around the nose. Not a saddle for outright comfort, but it has done fine for me on many rides (and I don't have a chamois). The best part about it is the fact that it is narrower so I can ride more comfortably with it up at a decent height for pedaling.

Other: WTB Devo. I tried this through the demo thing (thanks Mattj!) and it was light (I weighed it in the 22x gram range) and I really really wanted to like it... but it was not for me. I always ended up shifting forward uncomfortably on it no matter the angle and fore/aft position. I found it to simply be too wide (in the middle I guess). A bit longer and slimmer through the middle for my thighs would be good, I'm looking at the Silverado to try next...

:full disclosure: I have a deal wit SDG USA

I picked up an SDG I-Fly for my DH bike this year, it's crazy light, 155g (claimed), so slightly more than an SLR ti, but less than half the price.

and uses the I-Beam system. I haven't weighed the post, they claim the ALU post is 220g for 27.2x400m.

The I-Beam system is pretty awesome,1 easy to access 6mm bolt on the side of the post and you can adjust for-aft and tilt.

The seat is pretty umm firm, but on a DH bike who cares. I rode it in the Ripper and it was quite comfy.

I'm also a fan of WTB saddles. The Devo-ti is sweet (I have one of these too) light, 195g, but comfy for those long days. I've already ripped the leather on it though.

Speed V w/Ti rails, I believe. Definitely cushier than a Selle Italia Flite, and another reason why it is a good choice for the descents.

Yeah, that would be the Laser V if it has Ti rails, same shape as the Speed V. I didn't like that saddle for myself, but I love the Pure V for the FR/DH bike, I climb Fromme a lot from home, so it is about a 90 minute climb for me. I run a Rocket V on my XC hardtail, similar shape to the Pure V, but smaller in size.

I haven't ridden a Devo or Silverado yet, but I know a couple guys who swear by those shapes.

Again, I suggest taking advantage of the WTB "Test Ride" program if you can. Take a saddle out for an hour ride, see if you like it, then make an educated purchase. As Heathen has discovered, a saddle is a key part of a true FR bike.
