another college thread
i realize there are a few of these recently, even some about the same particular school.
i've decided on getting a technical diploma, perhaps eventually go for a degree if it works out. im looking at the ITAS program at malaspina. its a 2 year diploma. i live in victoria and currently live with my parents. camosun offers the same program, and i could live at home and still work part time at my current job. overall camosun seems like the best alternative financially. im wondering if anyone has any experience with this course or something similar at either of these schools? or if anyone has any opinions on going to school while living at home opposed to moving out and getting that "college experience" i guess. its about time for me to move out, so i dont know if it would do me any good to stay at home another 2 years. financially of course it makes more sense, but i dont wanna be one of those guys that depends on his parents forever. any advice or opinions are welcome. thanks |

In my experience the most pessimistic people regarding the post secondary "experience" are those that stayed at home while going to school.
I moved out and live in res personally. When I recall my University experience res accounts for 90% of the friends I made and 90% of the good times I had. I think had I stayed at home, University would have felt more like a job than a lifestyle. Ironically with this mindset i probably would have been more successful though. In the end, the post secondary experience is really what you make it. You can certainly equal the experience living at home, but the onus falls on you to join clubs and meet people. This can be difficult at first. If you can afford to, I would pick the move out option, but it is a luxury. |

i like the idea of living on campus, even if it costs more/puts me in more debt.
i can definately see how going to school and living at home just wouldnt be the same kind of experience. and while i am going to learn, i do want to be able to enjoy the whole process. |

I go to Camosun but want to go somewhere else just for that "college experience" something with a lot of dorms and res area.
