The funny thing is, I was downtown on monday, and while walking around I didn't see a lot of garbage piling up in alleys, etc. Some alleys were a mess, I'll admit it, but for the most part everything was pretty clean.

Still, this isht should end.
Where's the mediator in all this?

you go down any of the alleys around my neighborhood, you wouldn't know that there was a garbage strike going on. For me, I just take my garbage to work. The one thing I do miss is the pools and community centers not open.

As a parent I would call this sabotage targeting children terrorism.

As a former Toronto CUPE member I'm disgusted by this. I believe a public beating is on order for the retards.

I was talking to my uncle yesterday, he's a city worker.
He mentioned that management is running the garbage pickup in the downtown core, and high end areas in order to keep those places relatively clean. They feel that those are the parts of the city that the public, including tourists see the most.

They're doing a pretty good job of that.
That is, until you get to Main and Hastings.

I can't believe this strike is still going on. Luckily, I live in Richmond where the garbagemen work and the drivers are terrible.

I'm living in point grey right now, and its as bad here as anywhere else. I'd imagine most of downtown is on private contract anyways.

i'm in toronto now, so i could care less if those lazy bastards go back to work.

I mean, really, full time benifits for casual workers? get real.

Putting glass, nails and concrete on fields is way over the line imo.

ach.
that's not very good at all. You'd think that in places like Point Grey that the neighbourhood associations would have some say. Maybe even get some private contractors to clean the place up?

This is beyond acceptable.
Someone should lock mayor wheelie, and the head of the union in a room and not let them out until a deal is ratified.

Sad and petty.

I'd like it to end so all those a-holes in vancouver will stop driving their garbage out to the burbs to dump it off. Pretty lame that people can't use their own municipality's trasnfer station because there's 300 retards from Vancouver lined up.

I hear ya brutha.

We did a major cleanout of old stuff stored away this weekend, intending to drop it off at WasteTech on Sunday. Turns out the place is only open to the public for 3 hours a day on weekends due to the extreme volume, and the lineups are huge.

Maybe I'll just drive up to Burke and drop it off in the ditch, shoot it up with a shotgun and light it on fire.

Better go to Vedder Mtn. The lineups for illegal dumping of garbage on Burke stretch to Lougheed on weekends.

Yup it's pretty lame. We're pretty sure it's Vancouverites that have been dumping hundreds of pounds of garbage by our dumpster late at night as well. It started happening just after the strike. Damned Vancouverites - go back to your mansions where you belong !!

I have a warehouse right across from Wastech, so I'm definately familiar with how busy they get.

On the average weekday there will be a lineup for at least 3 blocks, up to about 96th ave. This equals out to about 75 cars. Now normally, I'm pissed if I have to wait for more than 5 cars. You can imagine why they have to shut down after 3 hours.

What pisses me off is the assholes who dump personal garbage in my warehouse dumpster. I caught one guy trying a few weeks ago, which didn't go well for him. Fuckem though. I shouldn't have to pay extra to haul away everyone else's shit.

Yup, seen way too much of that lately. I've seen service trucks throwing their garbage in the garbage cans @ Lafarge Park too - Jim's Mowing seems to be a regular. Though they're definitely not alone.

The thing is, I have a hard time blaming the individuals.

Let's face it, one of the first things a society must do is take care of their waste. By striking, and taking away one of the foundations of society, both the city and the union are doing a major disservice to us all.

bleh.
