Disliking the smell of something is hardly grounds for it being illegal, no?

Maybe we should outlaw Durian? Although i think it is against the law to travel on a plane with it.

what about BO and strong perfume?can we outlaw those?
i don't care if pot is legal or illegal, it's immaterial to me. i just said i don't like the smell.

You really should care because the fact that it's illegal empowers gangsters and makes Canada a more violent place.

I hate to agree with Tungsten here, but can some of you "you make your own bed" crowd (which coincidentally do not smoke or drink apparently) tell me how sending people to jail that are mainly poor (and in the States) mainly black for doing something the is harmless and in many cases cultural is not an injustice? Saying that we can create just laws banning anything that we have a choice to do or not do is not a valid argument. Having the right to live a happy life includes CHOOSING to partake in all kinds of activities. How about reading books? I mean, you are not born reading Shakespeare?

A lot of people on here have this hang up on rights, as though that is all law is based on. But the charter is one of RIGHTS and FREEDOMS. Rights ensure equality, but freedoms ensure our quality of life, and just because teatotalers can feel righteous about their healthy life choices doesn't mean our freedoms should end where you chose to draw the line in your own lives.

Yeah as in jobless, oppressed, forgotten people anesthetizing themselves with booze and drugs.

The diabolical owning classes have massaged the law to key on poor peoples hopelessness as expressed in substance abuse, incarcerate them and turn a profit from prison labour.

Modern day slavery = injustice.

What have you done personally to change the laws? Ever written any letters or sent any e-mails?

With anti smoking laws getting more and more strict...pretty soon you won't be able to
smoke in any public space and there's talk about not being able to smoke in your own backyard.
If that holds true, that would include weed too. Only way to get high even if pot was
legal would be to eat it. Which would be far healthier for everyone involved.

The growers and dealers don't want it legal, the only people that want it legal are the
pot smokers. They're too lazy and high to make any real difference and the rest of the
people that think it should be legal (like me) could care less really either way to write
letters or cry out.

Man I've toked with everyone from golf pros and government workers to business owners. I don't think that highly of myself to call these people lazy. That's a real out of date stereotype.

I was being a bit facetious. While I understand the majority of people who smoke pot do so as a
"weekend" or occasional use kind of thing, the ones that burn hard are pretty fucked up. I find
it really hard to talk to them since they're brains are a bit fried.

The problem is that the ones that seem to really care (the ones you hear bitching about it not being
legal IRL) seem to be the burners, and they just can't get enough momentum to get a real movement
going and sustained for the length of time it'll take to truly change things. The ones that smoke
on occasion would "like" it to be legal, but they're too busy doing life to be bothered.

All the above are generalizations and only my personal experience/opinion.
