Didn't you call the NYtimes a rag in the past? Syria has long been divided along sectarian lines. The minority Alawiiites complete stranglehold on power was never going to hold forever. The Christians in Syria bet the farm on the Al-Assad dynasty. Where were you when when Christian Palestinians were being cleansed by their Muslim brethren? Or Iraq's Christians, non-mainstream Muslims and others were being exterminated or forced to flee? Pakistan is no better. Would you be less alarmed if the persecution was restricted to Kurds, Sufis, and/or Ismailis? Probably. The Syrians who were against Assad already tried peaceful demonstrations in the streets. They were gunned down in the hundreds. And you are outraged - just outraged - about Bahrain where anti-govt demonstrators are tear-gassed and clubbed. You're plain nuts.
