Longest road ride of the season!

Me and a guy from our local club rode out to Mt. Baker and back today. We climbed about a third up I guess and then back to White Rock. We managed 226km with an average speed of 28.2km/h. It was a pretty sweet ride, but it was cold!

There is a lot of really good riding down in Washington State.

That's awesome! I'm planning on doing a ride like that soon to a city neighboring where I am but but I'm a little scared. It's completely flat the whole way but I've never attempted a distance like that before. The most I've ever done was around 100 km.

I'm impressed with the average speed over that distance. WOW.

It was a good hard ride for sure! We maintained a good pace for the whole ride.

I have to spend some time adjusting my fit on the bike. My knees are a little sore today as the saddle just wasn't in the right position. I haven't noticed it on shorter rides, nut everything is more noticeable on a ride that long.

Nice work! I thought I had done well with 145Km over 5 hours. I guess I'm gonna have to pull up my socks.

Ps Who would have thunk you could ride from Kits to Fort Langley in 2 hours.

Leggatt, thanks for posting this account. Hopefully you'll spawn other to post up their road ride epic TR's. We've all seen the alpine backcountry TR's, perhaps we'll start to see some from those who left a pound of flesh out on the road.

So I'll say: "post 'em if you got 'em". Grade, avg watts, pictures, distance, pace, route map or whatever you got, let's share it around.

I got a couple biggies planned and will post em later in the summer.

climbing wise the hardest/longest I've done is the Col du Telegraph/Galibier combo. almost 35 km's of climbing

not my trip but some details.

I'm going to have 3 days of riding in Europe next month and starting look at options. maybe the Stelvio or Passo di Gavia.

I did Nanaimo to Cobble Hill with avg speed of just over 30kmh. THat's not very long and very flat. Frankly i couldn't imagine averaging leggatts speed over that kind of distance on that kind of hilly course

Long and fast. Wow. Nice work.

The longest day I've done in terms of distance was about 210 k at the end of a tour with my wife. The bad news was I was on my Ritchey with panniers and it weighed about 90 lbs. The up side was that we were riding from Maastricht to Utrecht in the Netherlands so it was dead flat - and we were fit having pedalled from Genoa in Italy over the Alps.

I have no idea what our average speed was but it wasn't fast.

Touring rules. I'm looking forward to doing more once the grommets can fend for themselves.
