that'd be nice, but specialized doesn't offer 650b tires.

The MaxxTerra version is a great mix of compounds. They wear reasonably well, roll well and the grip is very good. The 29er HR2 MaxxTerra has crazy amounts of traction. It was hard getting used to pushing the TallboyC so hard in corners! I have the TR version though so my only experience with a standard casing and tubeless is with DHFs and DHR2s.

I've heard of this method before, but never thought about it. You're saying that you use C02 cartridges to set your tubeless? I'm guessing that you're so wealthy you need to find ways to use money OR you hate the planet OR that this method works extremely well (I'm kind of assuming the third option, but you never know). I've had endless failures trying to set beads on Ikons (and to a lesser degree of pain on Crossmarks). Does the C02 method really work that well? What kind of gun or attachment head do you use?

I seat my tires using an air compressor. In the long term it is cheaper than co2 cartridges.

Agreed. I use a compressor too, but still have pains with the Ikons (and other Maxxis). I was just curious if the cartridge method is more effective than using a compressor, or if it's just a method used by those without compressors.

I've seated DHF Exo on wtb laser disc (with Gorilla tape) via a Lezyne mini pump. Same for a HR II Exo on Shimano XT tubeless rim. Also seated the same DHF with a crappy $4 Canadian Tire floor pump.
Both tires were first bed in with a tube. Mount with tube overnight, pull tube and re-do with some Stans fluid.

I got tired of going to the gas station that charges a buck for air an I have a line in cheap CO2. And I don't hate the planet either- everyone one of you mouth breathers spews CO2 everyday.

With tires that are tough to seat try inflating with a tube and leaving overnight first. After that, if you can't inflate it with a floor pump after loading with Stan's and soaping the bead then it is risky to use that tire/rim combo. |

Bogey so you have the HR 29er tires on your Tallboy? are these things really 1100 grams?? you've got enough clearance for these monster downhill tires on the tb?

maxxis lists the 29er hr2's as only coming in 2.3" widths, and weighing in at around 900 grams

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This is correct. Mine weighed a bit under 900g and came in right on 2.3" wide on my 21mm inside width rims. There is a decent amount of room on my Tallboy's rear triangle and tons of room on my Fox 34. It is a really nicely sized tire with gobs of traction for AM riding and the TR version sets up easily with a floor pump on a UST rim. Rolling resistance is better than expected also.
