Is it worth trying to sell a 10 plus year old bike?

I have two old bikes, both are 1999's I believe. One of them the frame has only been used a few times. neither has been riden since 2004. i haven't taken a good look at either bike, however I believe that with some air in the tires they would easily be rideable. They have been stored at my parents house in their basement, so they have not been exposed to the elements over time.

Is it worth trying to sell these bikes or should I simply take them to the dump after salvaging anything I can from them?

I guess it depends on your expectations from the sale. You'd likely sell them on Craigslist no problem, but going into winter probably isn't the best time.

If you're not going to sell them (like Dave said, wrong time of year) donate them to pedal, the kickstand, bikes for humanity, etc.

Never to the dump!

Sell them, donate them, give them away, keep the for when a friend needs a bike.

Take them down to east Hastings, leave on the side of the road and be amazed how quickly they have a new owner!

Ha, yeah when I couldn't be bothered to go to OCB / Bike Depot, I'd just leave abandoned bikes (from work) outside our apartment near Main and 2nd and they'd always be gone within 30 minutes.

I dropped a dumpster bike I had fixed the flat tubes on and WD-40'ed the chain off on Powell and Gore. Literally, I put the bike with a helmet into a bike rack (really? people use these down there??) and drove down the block a little to turn around. By the time I turned around and passed the bike rack again, the bike was pedaling away with dude wearing the helmet and waving.

I've heard rumours of a guy stealing the bikes that are left outside OCB lately and selling them... so I'd recommend doing your donation during business hours.

1999 ?

that bike ain't old , it's just getting broken in

if it's got two wheels that roll , a means to slow the thing down and gears that work someone somewhere can give it a good home .

three of the road bikes in my stable are seventies vintage regularly ridden , my daily commuter is from '84 , i got two bmx cruisers from the 80's .

what size / type these bikes ? i got space . . .

They always know who needs a bike. This way it gets into the hands of someone who will appreciate it rather than another thief. Since it's a charitable donation you get a receipt for tax purposes. Win - Win.
