Enduro in BC 2013 Season?

So.... what's the lowdown on enduro races in BC for next year? Or XC races that are more on the technical side and don't favor riders in spandex on wanna be road bikes?

I'd like to get into this next season but don't know where to start. This year I joined in on two endurance races in Kamloops, but they tended to lean more towards the XC side of things.

i don't know that anyone is using the strict enduro format for a whole race as of yet
the fvmba series is pretty enduro-esque
with all the love the format got on the last day of the kings, tony will probably incorporate it into whatever he unleashes on us next year
the toonie races in nv might go that way if shirk has anything to say about it...

i'd say, stay tuned

how about the monster enduro at kaslo sufferfest

http://www.kaslosufferfest.com/event.html#monster

edit: i don't know what the technical definition of enduro means, but the race is a whole lot of up (logging roads) and then back down (the monster)

I'm not sure how they compare to other races, but the Sunshine Coaster Marathon XC had some fun bits of tech and so did the Bear Mountain XC. Even better if it's muddy!

That Monster Enduro would make for an awesome outing; I'll have to look out for that one next year.

it definitely can use more people...i think only 17 were in it this year. i think a lot of people are turned off by the fact they can't bring the big bike (well they can, but it is a grind). i wussed out as i did the 100km sufferfest race the day before. my goal is to do it next year.

it also sucks that its in kaslo. Thats a hell of a drive from whistler, way faster to head down to oregon to race the NA Enduro tour races...

hopefully we get some reasonably priced enduro races - 160 or whatever it was for the overlord was a massive turn off for me.

The Kaslo ride sounds cool, but it's not real clear on what is timed and what isn't?

Part of the draw of Enduro is that it splits up a day's ride into smaller timed sections. So you can re-group between sections and enjoy the transfers at a social pace.

monster you have to climb up there, but only the descent and back to town is timed....it's pretty much just an up/down

Is it typical to these events where only the descent is timed? I'm also looking to swap up bikes next year, not sure whether a 5" bike that the Transition Bandit is the way to go or a 6" Covert? Other than the fact that I want to get a trail bike of some sorts the events I would like to do will play a bike part on that.

In my opinion a proper Enduro is broken up into stages, so the up/down with only down timed is really just a Super-D.

The timed stages are part of a larger loop/ride. Portions of the stages should have some climbing that is timed.

An example of a stage on Fromme might be racing 7th then back out onto Mtn Hwy and back up to something like LOC and finish at the BP. It has some of everything including a bit of climbing.

gwh - I would say a Covert over the Bandit for Enduro racing. Built it with a solo air Lyric and the lightest wheels you feel you can get away with, then a skinny fast rolling 2ply rear tire and a 1.5 ply very grippy front tire. Add dropper post and the drivetrain of choice.

totally agree, for the record.....it's still pretty cool that there are so many format options out there to suit the regions styles...

they had seperate results for the total, and the dh split. not sure what they used for awards (maybe both), but the ups were at least timed with the total. last year wasn't the enduro (just dh), so it was just the dh time.

not an expert at all about this format, but the enduro races in nelson are timed on the downs only. just have to pedal up. never been to one, but that's what it says in the emails
