You're harshing my buzz, dubprof.

Harshing.
My.
Buzz.

That reminds me, I cruised out to snap a couple pics of my dirty tray stuff, and got side tracked by a rogue coyote. I chased him through the field then came in for lunch. Completely forgot why I even went out there. Harsh my buzz.

Kinda agree here a little bit. What are you building right now anyway Darren? It hasn't rained in 3 months, conditions aren't exactly ideal for building anything right now, even maintenance on existing trails is pretty much pointless until we get a bit of moisture at least

Best way to learn to build is to walk existing trails and look at what's working and what's not. Use a bit of sense as to what is practical to build in the specific location and don't get too carried away on making huge stunts. You think any of the original trail builders like Digger had an internet forum to ask for advice on? Figure it out yourself and it'll be much more rewarding in the long run

Looks good Silk^

I have gotten a tonne of help and inspiration from the folks on here. I don't see anything wrong with asking a couple questions on a forum, it's pretty rough to rag on a guy just cause he is new and asked for advice.

My first stunt built sucked ass. A lot of ass. Why? Because I was so pumped to build some sort of wooden cool thing that I built in a pretty ridiculous spot and it wasn't logical at all. Plus I used crappy wood and rushed through it. It wasn't on a shared trail so I didn't ruin anything for others at least.

Start simple; a small bridge over a ditch you usually ride through or a little ramp onto a fallen log for a quick and easy log ride. Scrap the bridge and restart or move on if it sways in the wind or just doesn't "flow." If you take a look at Andrew's thread you can see the possibilities are endless.. Just put the time and effort into it and make sure it's quality!

gotta strongly disagree here and with dinkprof's earlier comments too.

why?

because why should people waste time potentially doing things wrong when they can come to a place with a wealth of info and learn how to do things right the first time.
sure you don't have to fall all over yourself running to help this guy out, but there's absolutely no need to crap on his parade either.

darren, start by reading up on those links that heckler posted. see if you can get down here for an nsmba trail builders clinic too, there's one coming up on Oct 25.

But how much can you learn from words on a computer screen compared to getting out there in the woods and looking at existing work and how it is constructed? That's all I'm saying, not shitting on his parade. Sure the forums can tell you what tools you need but deconstructing feature builds to learn how to make them over the internet is pointless

it's a place to start, maybe a place to connect with someone who will take him building and show him the ropes.
