Lets kill Great white sharks!

This is sad indeed. It won't do any good, but I guess it'll make people feel better?
Problem isn't the big sharks, it's the 10-12' GW's that haven't figured it out yet.
We killed a lot of GW's up until about 10-15 yrs ago. So now we have a lot of juvenile
GW's that are just learning to hunt the larger seals and sea lions. They haven't figured
out we're not a seal since they don't have a lot of experience at that age/size. That's
why almost all GW attacks are by 10-12' animals. It is just a theory, but there must be
a reason why GW's less than 10 never and over 12' rarely attack surfers/swimmers.

So now they're going to go out and kill some big sharks and we'll repeat this cycle in another
10-15 years.

What's wrong with a few dead surfers. If one species on this planet could do with a little trimming it's probably us, not the sharks.

Saw the first two episodes of Shark Wranglers. Off the coast of south Africa live catching White SHarks to attach tracking devices, take blood, and measurements. Sadly one they caught died shortly after release. It turns out the female I think it was was Anemic.

One thing they mentioned was any area a White Shark dies all the rest leave the area. So when the one died after release they all took off from the area the expedition was in. Maybe if we figured out what is released into the water that the other sharks pick up and makes them leave. Maybe we could duplicate and use it instead of other means.

Humans kill 100 million sharks per year, they kill 17 of us and only 220 people are attacked
each year.

Just in the US alone 4 million people are attacked by dogs with 17 fatalities: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_attack

Maybe we need to kill more dogs randomly.

When the Orca attacked and killed a GW around 97 every GW that was tagged off the Farallon
islands left the area. Not just SF, but the nearest one went about 500 miles straight
off shore, the others headed down to Baja and 3 headed to Hawaii. They didn't see a single
GW in that area for a few weeks. Even sharks that were many miles away when it happened
left.

It would be nice to figure out how that happened too. Problem is we need these apex predators
in our waters to keep the seal/fish populations healthy as well as in control.

Humans should just kill every living thing that isn't human. Kill all the sharks? Seal population will skyrocket so now we have to kill all the seals to save the salmon etc. Our planet should be one huge Surrey, overpopulated with humans and full of trash

It is we who are intruding into their habitat, not vise versa. Until a few decades ago or so, how many people went swimming or surfing regularly in these oceans? Sharks have been swimming the oceans for almost 1/2 a billion years.

Why not....humans already kill off other humans that live behind a differant man made boarder....only because they believe in a different man made religion or their govement hired them to do the killing of those who live in a differant land.

As many others have said, shark attacks are really rare. What is the point in going out and killing a bunch of them?

Sometimes we need to take a step back and look at what we are really doing. The world is not our playground. The ocean is the sharks territory, we need to respect that. It disgusts me that the Australian government is allowing this.

I've known several people who've been attacked by sharks. One missing an arm, another
missing a leg, another missing a foot (all tiger sharks) and one who had over 5,000 stitches
from a 12' GW that attacked him off Oregon (he was the first in Oregon and most northern
attack at the time). NOT ONE wanted the shark killed, even if they could prove it was the
shark that bit them. If you surf, you take that chance.
