I might also add that wedges are just as dangerous as axes

my brother was splitting with a wedge and hammer - the wedge was old and mushroomed

a peice of metal came of the wedge and fired into his fore arm

two weeks in the hospital with reconstructive surgery to sew all his tendons back together

the little piece of metal from the wedge shot into his fore arm and sliced all his tendons

the doc said it was exactly like a bullet wound

dont use mushroomed wedges - file of any metal bits that could break off

Stitches have been removed - looks like it has the chance to be a nice, clean and straight line. No reddish parts, no inflammation. Am off the bike and any sports for another two weeks.

Interesting thing the doc told me was that I missed the muscle used for lifting the foot. I really hit the only spot that would not have been in need of serious surgery. I only cut the skin, not a muscle. Lucky.
