Ankle brace for riding?

Hey all,

Anyone ride regularly with an ankle brace? I heavily sprained my ankle a week ago. I didn't break anything according to the first X-Ray, but I have a follow up with my GP next week. My ankle has gone some pretty awesome colours, and I'm in an aircast for a couple weeks.

This is the second time I've sprained the same ankle badly, and I'm thinking I should have a bit of extra support when I ride now. Can anyone make a suggestion on an ankle brace? The Pro-Tec IPS one looks pretty good, but I'm curious what other braces people have experience with.

Thanks in advance.

i rode with an aircast sports brace for years. The velcro warp style seem to be alot more comfortable than the lace up types. Years of bmx crashes had taken its toll on my ankle and just stepping off a curb wrong would roll it. Last couple years i have stopped wearing it as my ankle seems to be much stronger. good luck.

I've ridden with both the lace up sleeve and strap kind and the hard volleyball ones. Much preferred to ride without, but you gotta do what you gotta when you're injured.

The lace up with strap seemed to give me the best support.

Woah, that is a crazy idea. Can you share your secret instant strength tips? I would love to skip the step of having to use a brace for riding while I strengthen my ankle with traditional techniques...

worth checking if you can still get the 661 Pro Ankle Brace from any on-line suppliers?

I believe 661 discontinued it some seasons ago, but I have seen them pop up from time time

use a lacing system and then two, wide velcro wraps to give a huge amount of support, whilst narrow enough to fit into a BMX or MTB shoe without placing too much pressure on your ankle

I used one for months after screwing up a 360 over a jump box on my BMX at a local skatepark, 7 foot to flat rolled my ankle which swelled like a balloon

found the 661 support excellent as playing with the lacing and two velcro wraps allowed me to fine tune the support

It's just an ASO brace with a 661 logo on it.

I had one for a while for ultimate they work pretty well.

Recovery from injury should not be instant. I am of the opinion that you should allow things to recover properly and then work on your peg legs so that they are strong enough to keep this from happening again.

Listen to your body, don't force it to do something its not ready for.

Why? If technology can compensate effectively for something that is injured, who are you appeasing by sitting on your ass waiting?
